  1. 1. Reactions of aqueous radiolysis products with oxide surfaces : An experimental and DFT study

    Author : Cláudio Miguel Lousada Patrício; Mats Jonsson; Jean-Philippe Renault; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrogen peroxide; hydrogen production; metal; oxides; lanthanide; catalysis; density functional theory; surface; reactions; chemistry; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi; SRA - Production; SRA - Produktion;

    Abstract : The reactions between aqueous radiolysis products and oxide surfaces are important in nuclear technology in many ways. In solid-liquid systems, they affect (and at the same time are dependent on) both the solution chemistry and the stability of materials under the influence of ionizing radiation. READ MORE

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the interactions between talc mineral and surfaces, liquids and chemicals relevant for industrial applications, such as pulp and paper. Talc is used in the pulp and paper industry as a filler pigment, in control of pitch (lipophilic extractives) deposits and as a coating pigment. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modeling adsorption of organic compounds on activated carbon : a multivariate approach

    Author : Jufang Wu; Anders Cedergren; Ingrid Fängmark; Ola Claesson; Lars-Gunnar Hammarström; Fritz Stoeckli; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; activated carbon; adsorption; adsorption capacity; adsorption rate; PCA; PLS; binary mixtures; Dubinin-Radushkevich; Wheeler-Jonas; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Activated carbon is an adsorbent that is commonly used for removing organic contaminants from air due to its abundant pores and large internal surface area. This thesis is concerned with the static adsorption capacity and adsorption kinetics for single and binary organic compounds on different types of activated carbon. READ MORE

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the principles of biolubrication, focusing on synergistic effects between biolubricants. To this end surface force and friction measurements were carried out by means of Atomic Force Microscopy, using hydrophilic and hydrophobic model surfaces in salt solutions of high ionic strength (≈ 150 mM) in presence of different biolubricants. 5. 5. Tailoring residue-derived carbon materials for the removal of wastewater contaminants : adsorption and surface properties

    Author : Mirva Niinipuu; Stina Jansson; Jean-Francois Boily; Erik Rosenbaum; Magnus Bergknut; Capucine Dupont; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Adsorption; hydrochar; HTC; chemical activation; wastewater; pharmaceuticals; metals; surface properties; biobased residues;

    Abstract : The availability of effective, low-cost wastewater treatment is necessary for increased water recycling and the prevention of environmental pollution on a global scale. Adsorption on activated carbons is commonly applied in wastewater treatment, but the high cost of conventional activated carbons limits the use of this technique. READ MORE
