1. Orientation and Conformation of Single Macromolecules on Unmodified and Functionalized Surfaces
Abstract : In this thesis methods for investigation of orientation and conformation of individual macromolecules on surfaces are presented as well as novel methods for functionalization of silicon chips with the possibility to get an ordered immobilization of antibodies. Two novel methods are presented which makes it possible to investigate the orientation of individual macromolecules on different kinds of surfaces with AFM. READ MORE

2. Spatially Controlled Covalent Immobilization of Biomolecules on Silicon Surfaces
Abstract : The work described in this thesis aims to achieving surface patterning through chemical activation of thiolated silicon oxide surfaces, resulting in a spatially controlled covalent immobilization of biomolecules with high resolution.Existing chemical methods to immobilize molecules on surfaces do not reach below the micrometer scale while the ones allowing for spatial control mostly lead to non-covalent adsorption of molecules on surfaces, or require several successive chemical reactions to obtain the final covalent immobilization. 3. Physico-chemical properties of some aquatic fulvic acids - functional groups and stability
Abstract : Humic material constitutes a category of naturally produced organicmacrocompounds, widely spread in both terrestrial and aquatic systems and accounting for up to 70% of the total soil carbon and 50% of the dissolved organic carbon in surface waters. Humic material is formed as the result of complex chemical transformations of biomass. READ MORE

4. Modification of stable and degradable polymers by heterogeneous grafting
Abstract : This thesis summarizes the investigations of the electronbeam initiated grafting of a hydrophilic monomer, acrylamide(AAm), onto three polymers; linear low density poly(ethylene)(LLDPE), poly(&-caprolactone) (PCL) and chemicallycrosslinked poly( 1,5-dioxepan-2-one) (PDXO-X). LLDPE and PCLare semicrystalline and PDXO-X is fully amorphous. READ MORE

5. Preparation and properties of dried nanfibrillated cellulose and its nanocomposites
Abstract : The production of fully degradable nanocomposites with biopolymers as matrix and cellulose nanofibrils with high aspect ratios as reinforcement is still a challenging task. Also, due to the large amount of hydroxyl groups on the surface of these nanofibrils, they tend to irreversibly agglomerate during drying. READ MORE
