  1. 1. Efficient treatment of forest industrial wastewaters : Energy efficiency and resilience during disturbances

    Author : Maria Sandberg; Karin Granström; Jonas Berghel; Alan Werker; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Forest industry; wastewater; oxygen transfer rate; black liquor; surface active; extractives; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : This work concerns the efficient treatment of wastewaters from pulp and paper mills by means of aerobic biological processes. For treatment processes there are many aspects of efficiency and the present study investigates both energy efficiency and purification efficiency during disturbances. READ MORE

  2. 2. Land surface heat exchange over snow and frozen soil

    Author : David Gustafsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Surface energy balance; Snow; Boreal forest; SVAT models; Eddy-correlation Measurements; Latent heat flux; Sensible heat flux; Net radiation; Soil temperature; Aerodynamic roughness; Surface resistance; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : The energy exchange in the soil-snow-vegetation-atmospheresystem was studied to improve the quantitative knowledge of thegoverning processes. The lack of such knowledge contributes tothe uncertainty in the applicability of many existing modelsindependent of the temporal or spatial scale. READ MORE

    Abstract : Smoldering fires represent domestic, environmental and industrial hazards. This flameless form of combustion is more easily initiated than flaming, and is also more persistent and difficult to extinguish. The growing demand for non-fossil fuels has increased the use of solid biofuels such as biomass. READ MORE

  4. 4. Surface Energy Patterning and Optoelectronic Devices Based on Conjugated Polymers

    Author : Xiangjun Wang; Olle Inganäs; Henning Sirringhaus; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Surface energy modification; Patterning; Dewetting; Conjugated polymer; plastic solar cell; Low bandgap; Electron acceptors and donors; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns surface energy modification and patterning of the surfaces of conjugated polymers. Goniometry and Wilhelmy Balance techniques were used to evaluate the surface energy or wettability of a polymer’s surface; infrared reflectionabsorption spectroscopy (IRAS) was used to analyse the residuals on the surface as modified by a bare elastomeric stamp poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS). 5. 5. Boreal land surface water and heat balance : Modelling soil-snow-vegetation-atmosphere behaviour

    Author : David Gustafsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; soil; snow; land surface heat exchange; forest; arable land; eddy-correlation; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : The water and heat exchange in thesoil-snow-vegetation-atmosphere system was studied in order toimprove the quantitative knowledge of land surface processes.In this study, numerical simulation models and availabledatasets representing arable land, sub-alpine snowpack, andboreal forest were evaluated at both diurnal and seasonaltimescales.
