  1. 1. Nanocellulose for Biomedical Applications : Modification, Characterisation and Biocompatibility Studies

    Author : Kai Hua; Natalia Ferraz; Maria Strømme; Albert Mihranyan; Pedro Granja; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nanocellulose; nanofibrillated cellulose; Cladophora cellulose; biocompatibility; inflammation; surface modification; surface group density; surface topography; Engineering Science with specialization in Nanotechnology and Functional Materials; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot nanoteknologi och funktionella material;

    Abstract : In the past decade there has been increasing interest in exploring the use of nanocellulose in medicine. However, the influence of the physicochemical properties of nanocellulose on the material´s biocompatibility has not been fully investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Electronic materials : growth and characterisation

    Author : Michael A. Grishin; Ulf O. Karlsson; Massimo Sancrotti; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrophysics; Photoemission; Ultra-short laser pulse; Thin film; Laser deposition; InSb; InAs; GaSb; Ferroelectrics; Elektrofysik; Electrophysics; Elektrofysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis the InSb(111), InAs(111) and GaSb(001) surfaces have been studied by means of time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy based upon the femtosecond laser system. The pump-and-probe technique allows to analyse both electron states in the valence band and normally unpopulated electron states above the valence band, which can be occupied by transiently excited carriers at the optically pumped surface. 3. 3. Surface Interactions in Powder Injection Moulding

    Author : Elisabeth Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; surfactants; powder injection moulding PIM ; rheology; steel powder; surface interactions; XPS; SIMS; adsorption; surface composition;

    Abstract : Powder Injection Moulding (PIM) is an attractive technique for producing complex components in large quantities my means of powder technology. The process includes mixing powder with a suitable binder, usually a thermoplastic polymer. Because of the large attractive forces between small particles the powder can be agglomerated in the binder. READ MORE

  4. 4. Surface Phenomena in Li-Ion Batteries

    Author : Anna Andersson; Rachid Yazami; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; Li-ion batteries; graphite; surface films; non-aqueous electrolytes; thermal stability; salt dependence; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : The formation of surface films on electrodes in contact with non-aqueous electrolytes in lithium-ion batteries has a vital impact on battery performance. A basic understanding of such films is essential to the development of next-generation power sources. READ MORE

  5. 5. Preparation and Properties of Surface Modified Thin Polymer Films

    Author : Sofia Kihlman Øiseth; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aminodextran; plasma polymerisation; polymer films; high-density polyethylene HDPE ; UV ozone treatment; surface modification; glow discharge plasma; in situ control; spin coating;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with preparation, modification and characterisation of thin polymer films. Most of the work has been performed using thin films of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) as a model system for systematic surface modifications by glow discharge plasma and UV/ozone treatments.
