  1. 1. On Surface Topography of Cylinder Liners

    Author : Zlate Dimkovski; John Westberg; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cylinder liner; Surface Roughness; Characterisation; Honing; Wear; Blechmantel; Groove Parameters; Quality Control; Flow Simulation; Surface engineering; Ytbehandlingsteknik;

    Abstract : The frictional losses, oil consumption and emissions in internal combustion engines are in great extent controlled by the cylinder liner surface topography. This emphasises the importance of: investigating the liner’s topography by objectively characterising it, investigating its effects on the tribological function to gain a better understanding and improving its manufacturing. 2. 2. Numerical Studies of Flow and AssociatedLosses in the Exhaust Port of a Diesel Engine

    Author : Yue Wang; Laszlo Fuchs; Mihai Mihaescu; Angelo Onorati; KTH; []
    Keywords : Internal Combustion Engine; Exhaust flow; Exhaust Valve; Exhaust Port; Large Eddy Simulation; Valve and Piston Motion; Total Pressure Losses; Energy Losses; Discharge coefficient; Flow Losses; Flow structures; Air Flow Bench; Engine-like Conditions; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : In the last decades, the focus of internal combustion engine development has moved towards more efficient and less pollutant engines. In a Diesel engine, approximately 30-40% of the energy provided by combustion is lost through the exhaust gases. The exhaust gases are hot and therefore rich of energy. READ MORE

  3. 3. Flow-induced Surface Defects and Ageing Behaviour of Injection-moulded Polymers

    Author : Giovanna Iannuzzi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PP; surface defects; flow marks tiger stripes ; ageing; Injection moulding; ABS; rheological properties; degradation; surface topography; discolouration;

    Abstract : Injection moulding is one of the most commonly used manufacturing methods for the production of polymer-based components such as car bumpers and other automotive details. The surface appearance of these products is of great importance since it is directly connected to the perceived quality. READ MORE

  4. 4. Potential Flow Panel Methods for the Calculation of Free-surface Flows with Lift

    Author : Carl-Erik Janson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; desingularized; shape optimization; Rankine source; waves; OCTOPUS; dipole; MMA; Dawson operator; boundary layer; vortex; Method of Moving Asymptotes; nonlinear; sailing yacht; four point operator; surface piercing wing; Navier-Stokes; numerical method; lift force; raised panel method; discrete Fourier transform; collocation point shift; potential flow; CFD; free surface; induced drag; SHIPFLOW; dispersion; damping; analytical method; hydrofoil;

    Abstract : Two non-linear Rankine-source panel methods are developed and implemented in the same computer code. The first method uses a four-point upwind operator on the free-surface to compute the velocity derivatives and to enforce the radiation condition while the second method uses an analytical expression for the velocity derivatives and a collocation point shift one panel upstream to prevent upstream waves. 5. 5. Melt flow and surface stability effects on polymer flammability : A study on polystyrene, flexible polyurethane foam and polyolefin composites

    Author : Roland H. Krämer; Ulf W. Gedde; Norman C. Billingham; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Melt; flow; dripping; collapse; combustion; pool fire; feed‐back; gasification; heat release; flammability; nanocomposites; molar mass; intumescence; polyurethane; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Our ability to accurately determine the flammability properties of polymers is hampered bythe erratic effects of deformation and liquid flow that occur during polymer combustion.This study aims to improve the understanding of such effects at several levels: The often obvious impact of melt flow on standardized flammability test methods forelectrical appliances is described to identify the need and to motivate others to worktowards an improved material characterization.
