6. Elements of modeling nanoparticle growth: Surface thermodynamics and dispersive interactions
Abstract : Metal nanoparticles have in recent decades been the subject of intense research owing to their wide range of size and shape-dependent properties, which makes them interesting candidates for a variety of applications. Gold nanorods represent a particularly intriguing type of particle due to their tunable plasmonic properties. READ MORE

7. Electronic materials : growth and characterisation
Abstract : In this thesis the InSb(111), InAs(111) and GaSb(001) surfaces have been studied by means of time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy based upon the femtosecond laser system. The pump-and-probe technique allows to analyse both electron states in the valence band and normally unpopulated electron states above the valence band, which can be occupied by transiently excited carriers at the optically pumped surface. 8. Biological growth on rendered façades
Abstract : Biological organisms have an incredible ability to adapt to almost any environment and the humans activities on earth have created many new habitats for different kinds of organisms. For example can certain organisms grow on rocks and vertical cliffs, and when humans started building houses with mineral based façades, some organisms found that these were new habitats to live on. 9. Biological growth on mineral façades
Abstract : During the last years there has been reported considerable and rapid contamination on newly built rendered façades in Sweden due to biological growth. The problem is believed to occur mostly on façades of render applied on thermal insulation, but apart from this it is difficult to find clear relationships indication which façades might be infected. 10. Studies of Glycosaminoglycan Interactions - Surface Immobilization Strategies and Biosensing Applications
Abstract : Many important biological functions of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) have been highlighted in research literature during recent years. GAGs often serve as function-bearing structural elements in the extracellular matrix (ECM), but are also constituents of the cell membrane. GAGs take part in various biological mechanisms, e.g. READ MORE
