  1. 1. Surface patterns, spatiality and pattern relations in textile design

    Author : Tonje Kristensen Johnstone; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Surface patterns; textile design; spatiality; spatial definers; design variables; pattern relations; conceptual spatial determinations; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis focuses on surface patterns, spatiality, and pattern relations in textile design, and aims to explore surface patterns as spatial definers and what they mean in the context of surface patterns. A secondary focus relates to applying conceptual spatial determinations as alternative design variables in design processes, and exploring how these could be used to define and analyse pattern relations. 2. 2. Sources of dioxins and other POPs to the marine environment : Identification and apportionment using pattern analysis and receptor modeling

    Author : Kristina Sundqvist; Karin Wiberg; Mats Tysklind; Paul Geladi; Miriam Diamond; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; air-water gas exchange; chiral; congener pattern; enantiomer; enantiomeric fraction; fugacity; HCH; hexachlorocyclohexane; homologue profile; indicator congener; isomer pattern; pattern analysis; PCA; PCB; PCDD F; PMF; polychlorinated dibenzofuran; polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin; polychlorinated biphenyl; positive matrix factorization; principal component analysis; receptor modeling; source apportioning; source; source tracing; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar;

    Abstract : In the studies underlying this thesis, various source tracing techniques were applied to environmental samples from the Baltic region. Comprehensive sampling and analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in surface sediments in Swedish coastal and offshore areas resulted in a unique data set for this region. 3. 3. On the bone response to different implant textures. A 3D analysis of roughness, wavelength and surface pattern of experimental implants

    Author : Carin Hallgren Höstner; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surface modification; surface texture; roughness; surface evaluation; in vivo studies.;

    Abstract : PurposeThe purpose of the present thesis was to investigate the bone response to different isotropic, anisotropic and organised surface patterns.Material and methodsImplant surfaces have been modified with different techniques (abrasive blasting, turning, milling, photolithography or laser ablation). 4. 4. Functionalized Biomaterial Surfaces by Micro- and Nanofabrication

    Author : Sarunas Petronis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nanofabrication; surface characterization; surface topography; surface chemical composition; marine biofouling; force-sensing substrates; microfabrication; surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy; cell-surface interaction; biointerfaces; biomaterials;

    Abstract : In the field of biomaterials, well-defined nano- and micropatterns or features at material surfaces can serve both as models for investigating material-biosystem interactions and as functional features for inducing, hindering or measuring specific bioreactions or biologic responses. Important bioreactions include protein adsorption and conformation, cell attachment and function, and adhesion and function of organized tissues or whole organisms. READ MORE

  5. 5. Conduction laser welding : modelling of melt pool with free surface deformation

    Author : Josefine Svenungsson; Högskolan Väst; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Conduction laser welding; numerical modelling; Computational Fluid Dynamics; OpenFOAM; free surface deformation; melt pool; Production Technology; Produktionsteknik; Manufacturing and materials engineering; Produktions- och materialteknik;

    Abstract : Laser welding is commonly used in the automotive-, steel- and aerospace industry. It is a highly non-linear and coupled process where the weld geometry is strongly affected by the flow pattern in the melt pool. Experimental observations are challenging since the melt pool and melt flow below the surface are not yet accessible during welding. READ MORE
