1. The influence of Al alloy microstructure on conversion coating formation
Abstract : The formation of conversion coatings based on Ce, trivalent Cr and Ti/Zr is triggered by the local pH increase at cathodic IM sites of the aluminium alloy microstructure. The pH gradient is created over the cathodic intermetallic (IM) sites of the microstructure and its intensity is influenced by their activity which depends on their chemical composition, their size, and spatial distribution. 2. Chemical vapour deposition of sp2-hybridised B-C-N materials from organoborons
Abstract : Thin films of sp2-BN are promising materials for graphene and deep-UV optoelectronics. They are typically deposited by thermally activated chemical vapour deposition (CVD) from triethylboron (TEB) and ammonia (NH3) at 1500 °C, albeit in a narrow process window. READ MORE

3. Development of ATR-FTIR Kretschmann Spectroscopy for In situ Studies of Metal / Polymer Interfaces : and its Intergration with EIS for Exposure to Corrosive Conditions
Abstract : The environmental stability of a metal / polymer interface is essential for the durability and mechanical stability of constructions in several important areas such as the automotive, offshore, building and aerospace industries. The protective capability of a polymer film is strongly connected to its barrier properties, but the transport of water and corrosive constituents through the polymer and the subsequent processes at the metal surface are complicated to analyse in detail. 4. Lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases for green production of cellulose nanomaterials
Abstract : Cellulose is the main structural polymer in wood, and its potential in the form of nanomaterial building blocks, nanocelluloses, has now been recognized. Nanocelluloses, including cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), have become increasingly important in development of modern sustainable materials. READ MORE

5. Laminated Veneer Products : Shape Stability and Effect of Enhanced Formability on Bond-Line Strength
Abstract : This thesis concerns two aspects of the manufacture of laminated veneer products (LVPs). The first aspect is related to the possible improvement of the shape stability of LVPs, and the second has its starting point in the modification of the veneer for enhanced formability as well as the question of whether and how these modifications affect the bond-line strength.
