  1. 16. Lipid-Based Surface Modifications: towards the Development of Membrane-Protein Arrays

    Author : Indriati Pfeiffer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; DNA-array; cholesterol-DNA; EIS; membrane proteins; lipid vesicles; QCM-D; supported lipid bilayer;

    Abstract : Mimics of the natural cell membrane, such as lipid vesicles and supported lipid membranes, have gained significant attention in recent years. This is primarily due to their ability to provide scientists with a model system allowing a large arsenal of scientific tools to be used in studies of biological reactions that are naturally controlled by the cell membrane and its components. 2. 17. Modeling and simulation of intrinsically disordered proteins

    Author : Joao Henriques; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Intrinsically disordered proteins; Coarse-grained models; Atomistic models; Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations; Molecular dynamics simulations; Sampling; Conformational analysis; Charge regulation; Surface adsorption;

    Abstract : This work is primarily about the development, validation and application of computer simulation models for intrinsically disordered proteins, both in solution and in the presence of uniformly charged, ideal surfaces. The models in question are either coarse-grained or atomistic in nature, and their applications are dependent on the specific purpose of each study. READ MORE

    Abstract : Do metal particles (including particles of pure metals, alloys, metal oxides and compounds) pose a hazard or risk to human health? In the light of this question, this thesis summarizes results from research conducted on metal particles, and describes the elaboration and implementation of an in vitro test methodology to study metal release from particles through corrosion and dissolution processes in synthetic biological media relevant for human exposure through inhalation/ingestion and dermal contact. Bioaccessible metals are defined as the pool of released metals from particles that potentially could be made available for absorption by humans or other organisms. READ MORE

  4. 19. Protein-Polymer Interaction and Association in Aqueous Solution

    Author : Malin Jönsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Makromolekylär kemi; Macromolecular chemistry; enzymologi; Proteiner; enzymology; Proteins; Aqueous two-phase systems; Monte Carlo Simulations; hydrophobic effect; surface hydrophobicity; plasmid DNA; Protein; polymer;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to study protein-polymer interaction and association. Two different techniques were used; Monte Carlo simulations were combined with partitioning in polymeric aqueous two-phase systems. Monte Carlo simulations have been used to evaluate the hydrophobic interaction in electrolyte solution. READ MORE

  5. 20. Separation Methods in Membrane Proteomics -Integration of Aqueous Two-Phase Partitioning for Enrichment and Pre-Fractionation

    Author : Henrik Everberg; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane proteins; Proteins; metabolism; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; Aqueous two-phase partitioning; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; Proteomics;

    Abstract : The study of the protein complement of a genome is called proteomics. Proteomics can be defined as identification, quantification and characterization of a total set of proteins expressed at different time-points or under different cellular states to provide global information about biological processes.
