  1. 1. Studies on sitting pressure and buttock microcirculation : aiming at developing an alarm in the prevention of pressure ulcers in patients with spinal cord injuries

    Author : Johan Thorfinn; Disa Lidman; Folke Sjöberg; Henry Svensson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Blood supply; Buttocks; Hyperemia; Ischemia; Laser-Doppler flowmetry; Microcirculation; Posture physiology; Pressure; Skin blood supply; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : Pressure ulcers in patients with spinal cord injuries are a major problem, the prevalence in this group being reported as high as 20 – 30 percent. Most pressure ulcers develop around the pelvic girdle, and the key-contributing factor in the development of pressure ulcers is ischaemia due to longstanding pressure. READ MORE

  2. 2. Perceptual Surface Reconstruction

    Author : Jens Månsson; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; system; kontroll; Psychology; Psykologi; numerisk analys; Datalogi; systems; control; numerical analysis; Surface; Contour; Depth; Vision; Binocular; Computer science;

    Abstract : How does the brain transform the 2-D light arrays in our eyes into a meaningful 3-D description of surfaces around us? What assumptions does the visual system make about the world when information is incomplete? And how are these assumptions computationally expressed in this perceptual reconstruction process? These questions, and other aspects of binocular depth perception are analysed from a theoretical and computational perspective, as well as through empirical investigations. In paper one, the fundamentals of stereopsis are briefly reviewed, and the difficulties related with resolving the (stereo) correspondence problem are particularly discussed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Surface Densification of Solid Wood : Paving the Way Towards Industrial Implementation

    Author : Benedikt Neyses; Dick Sandberg; Alexander Pfriem; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Träteknik; Wood Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : Surface densification of a piece of solid wood results in an increase in density and in hardness in the whole or a part of the densified material, and is one of the ways of improving the properties and value of low-density wood species. Despite efforts for many years, mass commercialisation of either bulk- or surface-densified wood products has not yet been achieved. READ MORE

  4. 4. Graphene: Applications in Surface Science Studies

    Author : Virginia Boix; NanoLund: Center for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphene; Surface Science; EBID; Catalysis; undercover catalysis; XPS; APXPS; STM;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses how graphene can be a valuable asset for surface science studies. Using a combination of X- ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, and low-energy electron diffraction, we take advantage of graphene’s sensitivity to changes in its chemical environment to obtain an atomic scale understanding of different reactions occurring above and below the film. Abstract : With a growing number of multi-resistant bacteria against conventional antibiotics, there is an urgent need to identify new antimicrobial therapeutics. One example that has gained considerable interest is antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). READ MORE
