  1. 1. Positional Accuracy of Drilled Holes

    Author : Jacek K Kaminski; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; corresponding cutting forces; chip areas; workpiece material; drill wandering; rigidity; drill length; hole-making; surface slope; hole positional accuracy; drilling; conventional point geometry; high-speed steel twist drills; cutting resistance;

    Abstract : When selecting hole-making sequences, the positional accuracy mainly is determined during the first drilling operation. This dissertation consists of three papers which consider the influence of various factors on hole positional accuracy when drilling in inclined workpieces using high-speed steel twist drills with conventional point geometry. 2. 2. Undrained shear strength in clay slopes - Influence of stress conditions. A model and field test study

    Author : Hjördis Löfroth; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; preconsolidation pressure; piezocone test; slope; model test; consolidation; horizontal stress; clay; undrained shear strength; direct simple shear test; field vane test; field test;

    Abstract : To counteract natural hazards such as landslides, current methods for evaluation of soil properties as a mean for determining the safety level of natural slopes need to be refined. The empirical relationships used for estimation of the undrained shear strength from piezocone and field vane test are based on the stress conditions valid for horizontal ground and normally consolidated or slightly overconsolidated soil. Abstract : High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is a widely used tech-nique both for detecting and purifying substances in academy and in the industry. In order to facilitate the use of, and knowledge in HPLC, character-ization of stationary phases is of utmost importance. READ MORE

  4. 4. Roughening in dimer models : Random matrix statistics and surface fluctuations

    Author : Scott Mason; Kurt Johansson; Alexey Bufetov; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : The field of mathematical statistical mechanics sits at the intersection of probability theory and mathematical physics. It consists of the rigorous analysis of models in statistical mechanics, such as dimer and lattice models - of which the Ising model is a classical example. READ MORE

  5. 5. Near surface atmospheric flow over high latitude glaciers

    Author : Oskar Parmhed; Erland Källén; Branko Grisogono; Haraldur Ólafsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stable boundary layer; Ekman layer; Katabatic flow; gravity wave; low-level jets; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis various descriptions of the near surface atmospheric flow over a high latitude glacier is used in an effort to increase our understanding of the basic flow dynamics there. Through their contribution to sea-level change, mountain glaciers play a significant role in Earth’s climate system. READ MORE
