  1. 1. Hydrodynamic Modelling for a Point Absorbing Wave Energy Converter

    Author : Jens Engström; Jan Isberg; Mats Leijon; Antonio Sarmento; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ocean wave energy; Point absorber; Wave energy converter; Wave energy transport; Polychromatic wave; Linear generator; Resonance; Finite depth; Modelling; Engineering Science with specialization in Electronics; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektronik;

    Abstract : Surface gravity waves in the world’s oceans contain a renewable source of free power on the order of terawatts that has to this date not been commercially utilized. The division of Electricity at Uppsala University is developing a technology to harvest this energy. READ MORE

  2. 2. Numerical and experimental modelling for wave energy arrays optimization

    Author : Marianna Giassi; Malin Göteman; Jan Isberg; Gregorio Iglesias; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wave energy; Point absorber; Arrays; Parks; Farms; Optimization; Array layout; Genetic algorithm; Cost function; Wave tank experiment; Hydrodynamics; Economical model; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : Many wave power conversion devices, especially point-absorbers, do not provide alone the necessary amount of converted electricity to be cost effective, instead they are designed to be deployed in arrays of many units. Such arrays, or parks, can satisfy a large-scale energy demand, reduce the costs of the produced electricity and improve the reliability of the system. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optimization of Point Absorber Wave Energy Parks

    Author : Marianna Giassi; Malin Göteman; Jens Peter Kofoed; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wave energy arrays; genetic algorithm; optimization; WEC; hydrodynamic interaction; Engineering Science; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Renewable energies are believed to play the key role in assuring a future of sustainable energy supply and low carbon emissions. Particularly, this thesis focus on wave energy, which is created by extracting the power stored in the waves of the oceans. READ MORE

  4. 4. Sea Level Compensation System for Wave Energy Converters

    Author : Valeria Castellucci; Rafael Waters; Ronan Costello; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Ocean energy; Tides; Linear generator; Point absorber; Offshore experiment; Hydro-mechanic modeling; Power absorption; Control system; Communication system; Measurement system; Lysekil research site; Wave Hub.;

    Abstract : The wave energy converter developed at Uppsala University consists of a linear generator at the seabed driven by the motion of a buoy on the water surface. The energy absorbed by the generator is negatively affected by variations of the mean sea level caused by tides, changes in barometric pressure, strong winds, and storm surges. READ MORE

  5. 5. Numerical Modelling and Mechanical Studies on a Point Absorber Type Wave Energy Converter

    Author : Yue Hong; Rafael Waters; Mikael Eriksson; Cecilia Boström; Jørgen Hals Todalshaug; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : linear generator; point absorber; numerical modelling; power production; optimal damping; Teknisk fysik; Engineering Science;

    Abstract : Oceans cover two thirds of the Earth’s surface and the energy potential of ocean waves as a renewable energy source is huge. It would therefore be a tremendous achievement if the vast mechanical energy in waves was converted into a form of energy that could be used successfully by society. READ MORE
