1. Steady waves in local and nonlocal models for water waves
Abstract : We study the steady Euler equations for inviscid, incompressible, and irrotational water waves of constant density. The thesis consists of three papers. The first paper approaches the Euler equations through a famous nonlocal model equation for gravity waves, namely the Whitham equation. READ MORE

2. Surface Wave Testing of Pavements
Abstract : A novel approach for surface wave testing of pavements is presented. It is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique that can be used to obtain the thickness and stiffness properties of the different layers in a pavement. READ MORE

3. Potential Flow Panel Methods for the Calculation of Free-surface Flows with Lift
Abstract : Two non-linear Rankine-source panel methods are developed and implemented in the same computer code. The first method uses a four-point upwind operator on the free-surface to compute the velocity derivatives and to enforce the radiation condition while the second method uses an analytical expression for the velocity derivatives and a collocation point shift one panel upstream to prevent upstream waves. 4. Non-contact surface wave measurements on pavements
Abstract : In this thesis, nondestructive surface wave measurements are presented for characterization of dynamic modulus and layer thickness on different pavements and cement concrete slabs. Air-coupled microphones enable rapid data acquisition without physical contact with the pavement surface. READ MORE

5. Direct and inverse resonance problems for seismic surface waves
Abstract : This thesis concerns the investigation of direct and inverse resonance results for the Love and the Rayleigh operators, which arise from decoupling the three-dimensional elastic wave equation in the semiclassical limit in the half-space. Direct resonance results in terms of the asymptotic distribution of resonances in the complex plane are obtained for the Love and the Rayleigh operators. READ MORE
