  1. 1. ROLE OF SURFACE OXIDES IN SINTERING OF CHROMIUM-ALLOYED STEEL POWDER

    University dissertation from Gothenburg : Chalmers tekniska högskola

    Author : Henrik Karlsson; [2005]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; water atomisation; surface analysis; sintering; chromium-alloyed steel.; Powder metallurgy; surface reactions; surface; surface oxide; SEM; XRD; AES; XPS;

    Abstract : During water-atomisation and handling of steel powder the surface inevitably oxidises. The surface bound oxide is an important factor in the processing of powder metallurgical (PM) steels, especially in case the powder contains elements forming stable oxides, such as Cr, Mn, and Si. 2. 2. Hydrophobic surfaces: Effect of surface structure on wetting and interaction forces

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Petra M Hansson; KTH.; [2012]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrophobic surface; superhydrophobic surface; atomic force microscopy; surface forces; capillary forces; cavitaion; surface roughness; friction; wetting; confocal Raman; contact angles; surface preparation; Langmuir-Blodgett;

    Abstract : The use of hydrophobic surfaces is important for many processes both in nature and industry. Interactions between hydrophobic species play a key role in industrial applications such as water-cleaning procedures and pitch control during papermaking but they also give information on how to design surfaces like hydrophobic mineral pigments. 3. 3. Surface Force and Friction effects of adsorbed layers and surface topography

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Xiaoyan Liu; KTH.; [2014]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Friction; nanotribology; surface forces; diblock copolymer; lipid; QCM-D; AFM; optical reflectometry; neutron reflectivity; X-ray reflectivity; micro-patterned surface; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Interfacial features of polymers are a complex, fascinating topic, and industrially very important. There is clearly a need to understand interactions between polymer layers as they can be used for controlling surface properties, colloidal stability and lubrication. The aim of my Ph. READ MORE

  4. 4. Perceptual Surface Reconstruction

    University dissertation from Department of Cognitive Science, Lund University

    Author : Jens Månsson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; system; kontroll; Psychology; Psykologi; numerisk analys; Datalogi; systems; control; numerical analysis; Surface; Contour; Depth; Vision; Binocular; Computer science;

    Abstract : How does the brain transform the 2-D light arrays in our eyes into a meaningful 3-D description of surfaces around us? What assumptions does the visual system make about the world when information is incomplete? And how are these assumptions computationally expressed in this perceptual reconstruction process? These questions, and other aspects of binocular depth perception are analysed from a theoretical and computational perspective, as well as through empirical investigations. In paper one, the fundamentals of stereopsis are briefly reviewed, and the difficulties related with resolving the (stereo) correspondence problem are particularly discussed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Surface Integrity Characterization of Gears with respect to Running-in

    University dissertation from Department of Cognitive Science, Lund University

    Author : Dinesh Mallipeddi; [2016]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; micropitting; surface asperities; running-in; surface roughness; residual stresses; Gears; surface chemistry;

    Abstract : A gearbox with gears of different sizes is part of a vehicle transmission system that plays an important part in transmitting the engine power to the wheels. The efficient energy transmission highly relies on the performance of gears. Together, the mesh efficiency and durability determines the gear performance. READ MORE
