  1. 1. ROLE OF SURFACE OXIDES IN SINTERING OF CHROMIUM-ALLOYED STEEL POWDER

    Author : Henrik Karlsson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : water atomisation; surface analysis; sintering; chromium-alloyed steel.; Powder metallurgy; surface reactions; surface; surface oxide; SEM; XRD; AES; XPS;

    Abstract : During water-atomisation and handling of steel powder the surface inevitably oxidises. The surface bound oxide is an important factor in the processing of powder metallurgical (PM) steels, especially in case the powder contains elements forming stable oxides, such as Cr, Mn, and Si. 2. 2. Hydrophobic surfaces: Effect of surface structure on wetting and interaction forces

    Author : Petra M Hansson; Per M. Claesson; Agne Swerin; Adam C Simonsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; hydrophobic surface; superhydrophobic surface; atomic force microscopy; surface forces; capillary forces; cavitaion; surface roughness; friction; wetting; confocal Raman; contact angles; surface preparation; Langmuir-Blodgett;

    Abstract : The use of hydrophobic surfaces is important for many processes both in nature and industry. Interactions between hydrophobic species play a key role in industrial applications such as water-cleaning procedures and pitch control during papermaking but they also give information on how to design surfaces like hydrophobic mineral pigments. 3. 3. Surface Force and Friction : effects of adsorbed layers and surface topography

    Author : Xiaoyan Liu; Per Claesson; Bjorn Torger Stokke; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Friction; nanotribology; surface forces; diblock copolymer; lipid; QCM-D; AFM; optical reflectometry; neutron reflectivity; X-ray reflectivity; micro-patterned surface; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Interfacial features of polymers are a complex, fascinating topic, and industrially very important. There is clearly a need to understand interactions between polymer layers as they can be used for controlling surface properties, colloidal stability and lubrication. The aim of my Ph. READ MORE

  4. 4. Perceptual Surface Reconstruction

    Author : Jens Månsson; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; system; kontroll; Psychology; Psykologi; numerisk analys; Datalogi; systems; control; numerical analysis; Surface; Contour; Depth; Vision; Binocular; Computer science;

    Abstract : How does the brain transform the 2-D light arrays in our eyes into a meaningful 3-D description of surfaces around us? What assumptions does the visual system make about the world when information is incomplete? And how are these assumptions computationally expressed in this perceptual reconstruction process? These questions, and other aspects of binocular depth perception are analysed from a theoretical and computational perspective, as well as through empirical investigations. In paper one, the fundamentals of stereopsis are briefly reviewed, and the difficulties related with resolving the (stereo) correspondence problem are particularly discussed. READ MORE

  5. 5. On Surface Topography of Cylinder Liners

    Author : Zlate Dimkovski; John Westberg; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cylinder liner; Surface Roughness; Characterisation; Honing; Wear; Blechmantel; Groove Parameters; Quality Control; Flow Simulation; Surface engineering; Ytbehandlingsteknik;

    Abstract : The frictional losses, oil consumption and emissions in internal combustion engines are in great extent controlled by the cylinder liner surface topography. This emphasises the importance of: investigating the liner’s topography by objectively characterising it, investigating its effects on the tribological function to gain a better understanding and improving its manufacturing.
