  1. 11. Optimization of Castings by using Surrogate Models

    Author : Erik Gustafsson; Niclas Strömberg; Bo Torstenfelt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Response Surface Methodology RSM ; Residual Stresses; Castings; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : In this thesis structural optimization of castings and thermomechanical analysis of castings are studied.In paper I an optimization algorithm is created by using Matlab. The algorithm is linked to the commercial FE solver Abaqus by using Python script. READ MORE

  2. 12. Offshore renewable energy systems : Quantification of extreme loads using computational methods

    Author : Eirini Katsidoniotaki; Malin Göteman; Alison Raby; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; offshore systems; wave energy; CFD; extreme events; machine learning; Bayesian experimental design; active learning; surrogate modeling;

    Abstract : This Ph.D. thesis investigates the dynamic response of offshore energy systems in extreme waves. The use of offshore energy technologies, such as wave energy systems and offshore wind turbines, is crucial for transitioning to clean energy and mitigating the effects of climate change. READ MORE

  3. 13. MELCOR Capability Development for Simulation of Debris Bed Coolability

    Author : Yangli Chen; Weimin Ma; Michael Buck; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Severe accident; coolability; MELCOR; COCOMO; surrogate modeling; coupling codes; uncertainty analysis.; Kärnenergiteknik; Nuclear Engineering;

    Abstract : The severe accident management (SAM) strategy for a Nordic boiling water reactor (BWR) employs cavity flooding prior to vessel failure, so that the core melt (corium) discharged from the vessel could fragment and form a particulate debris bed. The key to the success of this SAM strategy is the coolability of ex-vessel debris beds. READ MORE

  4. 14. Adjuvant therapies to fluid resuscitation in experimental sepsis : Intervention studies in models of ARDS and peritonitis

    Author : Annelie Barrueta Tenhunen; Gaetano Perchiazzi; Johanna Hästbacka; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Acute respiratory distress syndrome; edema formation; peritonitis; sepsis; fluid resuscitation; animal model; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Abstract : Fluid resuscitation is essential to antagonize the deleterious effects of tissue hypo-perfusion in sepsis. If not thoroughly monitored and individually tailored, fluid therapy increases the risk of volume overload. Volume overload is associated with higher mortality in sepsis. READ MORE

    Abstract : Modern railway infrastructures, especially bridges, are exposed to significant vibrations with potential safety implications. In this context, previous studies have shown the inconsistency and inadequacy of some conventional design methods necessitaing them to be improved. The assessment of safety inherently deals with uncertainties. READ MORE
