  1. 1. Electrocatalysts for sustainable hydrogen energy : disordered and heterogeneous nanomaterials

    Author : Joakim Ekspong; Thomas Wågberg; Ludvig Edman; Tomas Edvinsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water splitting; Electrochemistry; Nanomaterials; Density functional theory; Hydrogen evolution; MoS2; Fuel cell; nanomaterials; nanomaterial; fysik; Physics; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : With the current global greenhouse gas emissions, our remaining carbon budget is depleted in only 7 years. After that, several biophysical systems are predicted to collapse such as the arctic ice, coral reefs and the permafrost, leading to potentially irreversible consequences. READ MORE

  2. 2. Land Use Conflicts between Agriculture and Energy Production : Systems Approaches to Allocate Potentials for Bioenergy and Agrophotovoltaics

    Author : Daniel Ketzer; Peter Schlyter; Henrik Ny; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Renewable energies; Geographic Information Systems; Agrophotovoltaics; Participatory technology development; Responsible Research and Innovation; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The developments towards a bio-based economy and a renewable energy-based power supply require thorough assessments of feedstocks and frameworks. In the past, political targets for increasing shares of renewable energies for combatting climate change have triggered direct land use changes (LUCs) and even indirect land use changes (iLUCs). Abstract : Enzyme immobilization on electrically conductive supports is necessary to improve their bioactivity and stability, for use and re-use in applications depending on bio-electrochemical response, such as in bioelectrodes, biosensors, or biofuel cells. However, the immobilization methods used are still facing many challenges in terms of health hazards and high environmental impact. READ MORE

  4. 4. Neutron scattering for sustainable energy materials: investigations of proton dynamics in acceptor doped barium zirconates

    Author : Daria Noferini; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; neutron scattering; fuel cells; QENS; Proton conductors; perovskites; proton dynamics; energy materials;

    Abstract : Proton conducting oxides are currently receiving considerable attention for their present or potential use as electrolytes in technological devices such as sensors and electrolysers and, in particular, solid oxide fuel cells, which are among the most promising apparatuses for energy conversion. One of the main challenges for these latter devices is to combine the advantages of a solid electrolyte with those of operational temperatures below 750 °C, which is currently hampered by insufficient conductivities in the targeted temperature range.
