  1. 1. Towards sustainable renovation : three research projects

    Author : Marina Botta; Sonja Vidén; Anne Vernéz Moudon; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Swedish housing; housing renovation; careful renovation; environmentally friendly renovation; ecological refurbishment; sustainable renovation; Architecture; Arkitektur;

    Abstract : The focus of this dissertation is on existing housing areas: in industrialised western countries, in 2005, the number of existing buildings that are taken care of, maintained, repaired, renovated or restructured for other functions is higher than the number of buildings that are (new) built. This is a review dissertation, based on empirical material and further reflections from previous research projects dealing with Swedish housing renovation: private-owned old single-family housing areas and large housing areas from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, mainly owned by housing companies. 2. 2. Promotion of sustainable renovation in the built environment : An early stage techno-economic approach

    Author : Navid Gohardani; Folke Björk; Bo-Göran Hellers; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Refurbishment; retrofitting; renovation; energy consumption; Vacuum Insulation Panels; ACES;

    Abstract : According to the Swedish Government's set targets for energy use and environmental quality imposed by the European Union, the total energy per heated unit area in residential and commercial buildings will have to be decreased by 20% in 2020 and 50% by 2050 in relation to the annual consumption of 1995. The building sector should additionally be completely independent of fossil fuels for energy usage, with the increasing sector of renewable energy continuously growing until 2020. READ MORE

  3. 3. Contractor Monitoring of Productivity and Sustainability in Building Refurbishment

    Author : Ahmet Anil Sezer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sustainability; construction industry; measurement; refurbishment; productivity;

    Abstract : The aging building stock in Europe and regulatory requirements to decrease energy consumption make sustainable refurbishment a valuable alternative to other construction activities. The construction industry appears to suffer from low productivity growth, and the construction productivity debate concludes that productivity measurement is difficult, not least due to changes in input and output qualities. 4. 4. Building Energy Efficiency Measures in District Heating Systems

    Author : Tina Lidberg; Louise Ödlund; Thomas Olofsson; Erik Dahlquist; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building simulation; combined heat and power; district heating; domestic hot water; energy efficiency; greenhouse gas emission; low-temperature; multi-family building; primary energy; refurbishment; byggnadsimulering; energieffektivitet; flerfamiljshus; fjärrvärme; kraftvärme; lågtemperatur; primärenergi; renovering; tappvarmvatten; växthusgas; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development; Reesbe företagsforskarskola;

    Abstract : Improving energy performance of existing buildings is an important part in decreasing energy use and in turn reducing greenhouse gas emissions and primary energy use. To be able to evaluate how energy refurbishment influences greenhouse gas emissions and primary energy use a wider system perspective is needed which puts the building in its context. READ MORE

  5. 5. Influences from Building Energy Efficiency Refurbishment on a Regional District Heating System

    Author : Tina Lidberg; Louise Ödlund; Thomas Olofsson; Urban Persson; Högskolan i Gävle; []
