  1. 1. Metabolic regulation of nitrogen fixation in Rhodospirillum rubrum

    Author : He Wang; Stefan Nordlund; Patrick Hallenbeck; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rhodospirillum rubrum; nitrogen fixation; switch-off; PII; AmtB1; DRAG; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Nitrogen, along with carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, is amongst the most abundant elements in all living cells. The capability to convert atmospheric dinitrogen to biologically usable nitrogen compounds is only found in some prokaryotes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Regulation of nitrogen fixation in Rhodospirillum rubrum : Through proteomics and beyond

    Author : Tiago Selao; Agneta Norén; Daniel Arp; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rhodospirillum rubrum; nitrogen fixation; redox balance; switch-off; DRAT; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Adaptability is one of the reasons for the success of bacteria, allowing them to survive in conditions where no other organisms would be able to thrive. Nitrogen deficiency, for example, can be a limiting factor for the growth of micro-organisms, as this element is an essential part of almost all types of biomolecules. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ammonia assimilation and nitrogen fixation in phototrophic bacteria : studies on glutamine synthease and the metabolic regulation of nitrogenase in Rhodospirillum rubrum

    Author : Abdelhamid Soliman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The phototrophic bacteria and a few other species, are able to control nitrogen fixation on the metabolic level. This is a fast and reversible mechanism, which “switches off and on” the nitrogenase activity in response to the accessibility of combined nitrogen, the energy supply and the level of oxygen in the medium. 4. 4. Metabolic regulation of nitrogenase in Rhodospirillum rubrum : studies on DRAG and DRAT, the regulatory proteins of dinitrogenase reductase

    Author : Agneta Norén; Gary Robert; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Nitrogen fixation is catalyzed by nitrogenase, in an ATP-dependent reaction where dinitrogen is reduced to ammonium. Nitrogenase is a protein complex consisting of two proteins; dinitrogenase and dinitrogenase reductase and the reaction is only carried out by prokaryotes. READ MORE

  5. 5. What's behind sexual risk taking? : exploring the experiences of chlamydia-positive, HIV-positive, and HIV-tested young women and men in Sweden

    Author : Monica Christianson; Eva Johansson; Ann Lalos; Göran Westman; Tanja Tydén; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; youth; sexual risk taking; qualitative methods; gender; agency; Chlamydia trachomatis; HIV and HIV test; Family medicine; Allmänmedicin;

    Abstract : The overall aim was to explore the experiences of sexual risk taking among Chlamydia Trachomatis positive (CT+), HIV positive (HIV+), and HIV tested young women and men. The specific aims were to explore, from a gender perspective, the course of events, the norms, considerations and emotions involved in sexual risk taking in CT+, explore the perception of sexual risk taking in HIV+ youth, and their understanding of why they caught HIV and look at how the Law of Communicable Diseases Act impacts their sexuality.
