  1. 1. Cyanobacteria in symbiosis with plants : Protein patterns and regulatory mechanisms

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Botaniska institutionen

    Author : Martin Ekman; Stockholms universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cyanobacteria; symbiosis; Nostoc; Gunnera; Azolla; nitrogenase; modification; heterotrophic; proteomics; unsequenced; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Organism biology Plant physiology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Organismbiologi Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Cyanobacteria belonging to the heterocystous genus Nostoc, capable of oxygenic photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation via the enzyme nitrogenase, may form symbiotic associations with plants. In these associations most of the N2 fixed by the symbiotic cyanobacteria (cyanobiont) is transferred to the host, which in turn supplies the cyanobiont with fixed carbon. READ MORE

  2. 2. The puzzle of lichen symbiosis Pieces from Thamnolia

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Ioana Onuț-Brännström; Uppsala universitet.; [2017]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Thamnolia; lichen; symbiosis; photobiont; mycobiont; phylogeography; MAT-loci; barcoding; NGS; genome; transcriptome; Ice Age; Biology with specialization in Systematics; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik;

    Abstract : Symbiosis brought important evolutionary novelties to life on Earth. Lichens, the symbiotic entities formed by fungi, photosynthetic organisms and bacteria, represent an example of a successful adaptation in surviving hostile environments. Yet many aspects of the lichen symbiosis remain unexplored. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cyanobacteria in symbiosis with boreal forest feathermosses from genome evolution and gene regulation to impact on the ecosystem

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences, Stockholm University

    Author : Denis Warshan; Stockholms universitet.; [2017]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cyanobacteria; Feathermosses; Symbiosis; Boreal forest; Gene flow; Proteogenomic; Transcriptomic; Community structure and composition; Dinitrogen fixation; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Abstract : Among dinitrogen (N2)-fixing some cyanobacteria can establish symbiosis with a broad range of host plants from all plant lineages including bryophytes, ferns, gymnosperms, and angiosperms. In the boreal forests, the symbiosis between epiphytic cyanobacteria and feathermosses Hylocomium splendens and Pleurozium schreberi is ecologically important. READ MORE
