11. Multilevel Modulation and Transmission in VCSEL-based Short-range Fiber Optic Links
Abstract : As the demand for ever higher throughput short-range optical links is growing, research and industry associations have shown increased interest in multilevel modulation formats, such as the four leveled pulse amplitude modulation, referred to as 4-PAM. As on-off keying (OOK) persists to be the choice for low latency applications, for example high performance computing, datacenter operators see 4-PAM as the next format to succeed current OOK-based optical interconnects. 12. Modeling and Estimation of Phase Noise in Oscillators with Colored Noise Sources
Abstract : The continuous increase in demand for higher data rates due to applications with massive number of users motivates the design of faster and more spectrum efficient communication systems. In theory, the current communication systems must be able to operate close to Shannon capacity bounds. READ MORE

13. Coding for multiple-access and fading channels
Abstract : This thesis treats some information-theoretical and coding aspects of communication over multiple-access and fading channels. It consists of a general introduction and seven papers. In code-division multiple-access (CDMA) communication, many users have access to the channel simultaneously. READ MORE

Abstract : The continuous increase in demand for higher data rates due to applications with massive number of users motivates the design of faster and more spectrum efficient communication systems. In theory, the current communication systems must be able to operate close to Shannon capacity bounds. READ MORE

15. Capacity of MIMO Dispersive Fading Channels and the Achievable Error Performance of OFDM Signals in Frequency Dispersive Fading Channels
Abstract : Communication over a single-input single-output (SISO) and a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) dispersive fading channel were studied in the context of the ergodic Shannon channel capacity and the achievable error performance. A major contribution to the study is the equivalent SISO and MIMO vector channel models, derived from the corresponding waveform channel models, using a complete orthonormal and finite set of eigenfunctions to represent the waveform channel's output.
