1. A-type Potassium Channels in Dendritic Integration : Role in Epileptogenesis
Abstract : During cognitive tasks, synchronicity of neural activity varies and is correlated with performance. However, there may be an upper limit to normal synchronised activity – specifically, epileptogenic activity is characterized byexcess spiking at high synchronicity. READ MORE

2. Diversity and dynamics of Plasmodium falciparum malaria
Abstract : The epidemiology of genetic diversity of malaria parasites in relation to clinical parameters, acquisition of immunity and malaria transmission has implications for the development and evaluation of control measures such as vaccines and drugs. The diversity and dynamics of Plasmodium falciparum infections were therefore studied with a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based genotyping method targeting three highly polymorphic genes coding for potential vaccine candidate antigens: the two merozoite surface proteins msp1 block 2 and msp2 and the glutamine rich protein (glurp). 3. Evaluation of Myocardial Function in Chronic Kidney Disease : A Colour Tissue Velocity Imaging Study
Abstract : In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), overhydration, uremic toxins and left ventricular (LV) dyssynchrony are factors that may lead to LV dysfunction and conduction abnormalities and thus contribute to the high cardiac mortality. Colour tissue velocity imaging (TVI) allows a detailed quantitative analysis of cardiac function in CKD patients, opening new possibilities to evaluate longitudinal myocardial motion, rapid isovolumetric events, LV filling pressure and LV synchronicity. 4. Address Terms in Computer Mediated Communication: Email, Chat and Weblogs
Abstract : This dissertation focuses on the use of address phrases in three forms of computer mediated communication (CMC) in English. The aim of the study is to examine how people address each other in email, online chat and weblogs. READ MORE

5. The Arctic Ocean Palaeomagnetic Record : A Stratigraphic Approach
Abstract : The Arctic Ocean is an essential component of the global climate system, yet understanding of its geological archives is hampered by difficulties in age modelling. In addition to the scarcity of dateable microfossils, the palaeomagnetic record of Arctic sediments is unusual. READ MORE
