  2. 2. Small science on big machines: Politics and practices of synchrotron radiation laboratories

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Olof Hallonsten; [2009]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; big science; little science; sophistication; collectivization; European Synchrotron Radiation Facility; Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource; MAX-lab; scientific entrepreneurs; changing dynamics of science; Synchrotron radiation; research policy; science policy;

    Abstract : Synchrotron radiation laboratories are large scientific facilities where various scientific experiments are carried out by the use of radiation produced by particle accelerators. Research with synchrotron radiation emerged in the 1960s and 1970s as a peripheral activity at particle physics laboratories. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optical Studies For Synchrotron Radiation Beamlines

    University dissertation from MAX IV Laboratory, Lund University

    Author : Walan Grizolli; [2015]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Synchrotron Radiation; Optics; X-ray Optics; Beamline; Polarimetry; Coherence; Storage Rings; Diffraction Limited Storage Rings;

    Abstract : Synchrotron radiation sources have greatly contributed to the progress in many fields of science. The development of the storage ring technologies has made possible to obtain very low emittance electron beams, which together with the use of undulators allow guiding a very high photon flux into a very small spot required by the experiments. 4. 4. Synchrotron radiation from runaway electrons in plasmas

    University dissertation from MAX IV Laboratory, Lund University

    Author : Adam Stahl; [2015]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; runaway electrons; critical electric field; fusion plasma physics; tokamak; synchrotron radiation;

    Abstract : Highly relativistic runaway electrons are of great concern in the area of fusion energy research, since their presence in tokamak plasmas have the potential to hinder the successful and stable operation of the device, and potentially cause severe structural damage. In this thesis, runaway electron generation dynamics is investigated using the newly developed efficient computational tool CODE. READ MORE

  5. 5. Synchrotron radiation studies of gas phase molecules from hydrogen to DNA sugars

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Gemma Vall-llosera; Elisabeth Rachlew; Stacey Sorensen; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; KTH thesis; synchrotron radiation; gas phase; bio molecules; NATURAL SCIENCES Physics Atomic and molecular physics; NATURVETENSKAP Fysik Atom- och molekylfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis summarises experimental results on the molecular spectroscopy of gas phase molecules excited by synchrotron radiation in the VUV and soft X-ray regions. We have used three different detection techniques, photon induced fluorescence spectroscopy, photoionisation mass spectroscopy and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy to study molecular deuterium, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, methanol, pyridine, pyridazine, pyrimidine, pyrazine, s-triazine, and 2-deoxy-D-ribose, the last one also known as the DNA sugar.
