  1. 1. Pain and radiographic changes of the arthritic temporomandibular joint : relation to cytokines in synovial fluid and plasma

    Author : Silvi Nordahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Arthritis; Bone loss; Interleukin- 1 beta; Pain; Plasma; Progression; Radiographic changes; Synovial fluid; Temporomandibular joint; Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha;

    Abstract : In patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory joint diseases, radiographic changes of the TMJ are frequently observed. Common symptoms of TMJ involvement are pain at rest and on movement of the jaw. READ MORE

  2. 2. Percutaneous arthrodesis

    Author : Henrik Lauge-Pedersen; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kirurgi; traumatology; orthopaedics; ortopedi; traumatologi; Surgery; finite element analysis; stability; Arthrodesis; percutaneous;

    Abstract : It has been generally accepted that residual cartilage and subchondral bone has to be removed in order to get bony fusion in arthrodeses. In 1998 we reported successful fusion of 11 rheumatoid ankles, all treated with percutaneous fixation only. In at least one of these ankle joints there was cartilage left. READ MORE

  3. 3. Temporomandibular joint pain, hyperalgesia and allodynia in relation to interleukin-1ß and serotonin

    Author : Per Alstergren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Arthritis; Human; Hydroxocobalamin; Hyperalgesia; Inflammation; Interleukin-1; Pain; Plasma; Serotonin; Synovial fluid; Temporomandibular joint; Vitamin B12;

    Abstract : This thesis had two main aims and comprises a methodological and a clinical part. The aims were to develop a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) synovial fluid (SF) sampling method that enables the determination of the true SF level of various substances and, by using the developed TMJ SF sampling method, investigate the hypothesis that circulating as well as SF content of interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) and serotonin (5-HT) influence different TMJ pain entities and signs of tissue destruction in patients with TMJ inflammatory disorders. 4. 4. Cytokines in rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Ann-Kristin Ulfgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Rheumatoid arthritis; Synovitis; Immunohistochemistry; Digital image analysis; Cytokine Therapy; TNF neutralisation; Arthroscopy;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic disease characterised by inflammation in several joints. Cytokines appear to be important as both disease promoting and disease- suppressing mediators in the disease. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biolubrication: Structural investigation of lubricin and its glycosylation

    Author : Liaqat Ali; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lubricin; mass spectrometry; EPAPTTPK; GALNTs; biolubricator;

    Abstract : The sliding articular cartilage surfaces of the human diarthrodial joints are surrounded by biolubricating synovial fluid (SF), creating a perfect low friction biological biobearing structure with excellent lubrication and wear resistance, even during motion. Lubrication is predominately provided by surface adhered biomolecules including phospholipids, hyaluronic acid and synovial lubricin. READ MORE
