1. Exocytosis in insulin secreting cells - role of SNARE-proteins
Abstract : Type 2 diabetes is marked by deterioration in pancreatic β-cell function. SNARE-proteins are crucial for the fusion of insulin granules with the plasma membrane, a prerequisite for insulin secretion. READ MORE

2. Architecture and function of the insulin granule secretion machinery
Abstract : Insulin is released into the blood stream to normalize elevated blood glucose, for example after a meal. The hormone is synthesized by β-cells in the endocrine pancreas, and stored in small vesicles, known as secretory granules, until required. When glucose is elevated, these granules undergo regulated exocytosis and thereby secrete the hormone. READ MORE

3. Role of syntaxin-11 and munc18-2 in lymphocyte cytotoxic granule exocytosis
Abstract : Mutations in genes required for the exocytosis of cytotoxic granules by NK cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes are associated with early-onset familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (FHL). In this project, we examined how certain missense mutations in genes encoding syntaxin-11 and Munc18-2 abolish exocytosis and cause disease. READ MORE

4. Studies on proteins involved in the molecular regulation of insulin exocytosis
Abstract : Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by impaired insulin secretion and insulin resistance. Better understanding of molecular mechanisms of insulin secretion may help to optimize type 2 diabetes management. READ MORE

5. Molecular mechanisms of biphasic insulin secretion
Abstract : Pancreatic beta-cells secrete insulin in response to increase in blood glucose concentration with a rapid first phase and slower, sustained second phase. This secretion pattern is similar in entire pancreas, isolated islets of Langerhans and single beta-cells and it is disrupted in type 2-diabetes. READ MORE
