1. HOST EPIGENETIC REGULATOR BMI1 AND VIRAL FIBER PROTEIN FOR EQUILIBRIUM BETWEEN ADENOVIRUS AND HOST
Abstract : Human adenoviruses (Ads) are broadly used in cancer gene therapy, vaccine development and gene delivery. The modified Ad5 or Ad2 viruses have been successfully used as oncolytic agents in pre-clinical studies. However they could not be translated into clinic utility due to a number of limitations including inefficient Ad spread among tumor cells. READ MORE

2. Valorization of Kraft Lignin by Fractionation and Chemical Modifications for Different Applications
Abstract : AbstractLignin is one of the most abundant biopolymers. Approximately 70 million tons of technical lignin is generated annually, but only little is used for products other than energy. The complexity of lignin hinders full utilization in high-value products and materials. READ MORE

3. Upgrading Cellulose Networks: Conquering Limitations in Fiber Foams
Abstract : The battle to create structural materials with low environmental impact demands the investiture of two champions: porous structures and cellulose substrates. The dominant solutions when constructing strong lightweight materials are plastic and metallic foams, while currently, cellulose fiber foams suffer from challenges which hamper their development. 4. Hydrothermal recycling of natural and synthetic polymers to functional carbon materials
Abstract : Utilizing renewable recourses and waste recycling are necessary for reaching a circular resource society. The concept of this thesis was to set up a sustainable recycling route, suitable even for low quality biopolymer and plastic waste for production of functional carbon materials. READ MORE

5. Molecular Interactions in Thin Films of Biopolymers, Colloids and Synthetic Polyelectrolytes
Abstract : The development of the layer-by-layer (LbL) technique has turned out to be an efficient way to physically modify the surface properties of different materials, for example to improve the adhesive interactions between fibers in paper. The main objective of the work described in this thesis was to obtain fundamental data concerning the adhesive properties of wood biopolymers and LbL films, including the mechanical properties of the thin films, in order to shed light on the molecular mechanisms responsible for the adhesion between these materials.
