2. Ruthenium-catalyzed redox reactions and lipase-catalyzed asymmetric transformations of alcohols
Abstract : The major part of this thesis describes the synthesis of enantiopure alcohols and diols by combining ruthenium-catalyzed redox reactions that lead to racemization or epimerization and lipase-catalyzed asymmetric trans-formations in one-pot.A mechanistic study of the unexpected facile formation of meso-diacetate products found in enzyme-catalyzed acetylations of alkanediols with Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB) was first performed. 3. From Peak to Peak: Exploring Electron Hopping and Mass Transport in Metal-Organic Frameworks
Abstract : Incorporating molecular electrocatalysts into solid support structures combines the best of two worlds: their molecular nature allows precise structural tunability for selective and efficient conversion of small molecule substrates, while their structural integrity is greatly improved by the heterogeneous support matrix to allow for long-term stability and potentially industrial-scale applications. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) represent a potential class of materials to act as viable support scaffolds for hosting molecular catalysts for sustainable energy conversion, exhibiting well-ordered porous structures that can support high loading densities of catalyst species. 4. Investigations on the Physico-Chemical Phenomena during Induration of a Magnetite Pellet
Abstract : In the era of globalization with increasing environmental awareness, sustainable utilization of the available resources is a necessity; iron ores are no exception. Pelletization, being one of the increasingly practiced agglomeration techniques for the iron ore fines as well as other solid wastes from steel plants. READ MORE

5. Experiments on mutual neutralization using storage rings with merged ion beams
Abstract : This thesis presents work on merged-beams experiments using the DESIREE facility, which consists of two electrostatic ion-storage rings operated at cryogenic temperatures of about 13 K. The two storage rings have a common straight section, where oppositely charged ions can interact at sub-eV collision energies. READ MORE
