  1. 1. Towards Low-Complexity Vector Quantization

    Author : T. Z. Shabestary; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gaussian encoder; source coding; companding; Gaussian mixture; random coding; vector quantization; spectral coding;

    Abstract : This thesis is about constructing low-complexity, yet high-performance, vector quantizers (VQs) for 'real-world' sources. Knowledge concerning the source is extracted from a finite training set. In contrast with conventional VQ design procedures, we use the training set to estimate a statistical model for the source. 2. 2. Software Tools and Algorithms for Shotgun Sequence Assembly

    Author : Martti T. Tammi; Bruce Roe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Shotgun sequencing; multiple alignment; fragment assembly; repeats; sequencing error; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : During the last ten years, a genomics revolution has changed the ways biological research is carried out. The draft sequence of the human genome is available, as well as the sequence of 84 other completed genomes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Smuggle, Frame, Shoot : Illicit Media Practices and Visual Insurgency from Lebanese Incarceration

    Author : Chafic T. Najem; Kari Andén-Papadopoulos; Malin Wahlberg; Anne Kaun; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; media studies; visual culture; media practice; media witnessing; digital activism; vulnerability; prison practices; prison representations; prison testimonies; medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap; Media and Communication Studies;

    Abstract : This research explores prisoners’ illicit use of digital-media technology during their incarceration in Lebanon. Prisoners smuggle cellphones and access internet and telecommunication connection to produce and mediate videos, images, and voice recordings documenting quotidian experiences of imprisonment, violent events, and the COVID-19 Pandemic inside the notorious and overcrowded Roumieh Central Prison. 5. 5. Response of human skeletal muscle to chronic and acute exercise and ischemia : muscle dimensions, tissue water and blood flow as measured by magnetic resonance imaging and comparative methods

    Author : Anders T Nygren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Bloodflow; cross-sectional area; exercise; fiber area; Gd-DTPA; glycogen; human; hypotrophy; intermittent claudication; ischemia; magnetic resonance imaging; metabolism; perfusion; reflex sympathetic activity skeletal muscle; training; transverse relaxation; ultrasonography.;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to investigate the response of human skeletal muscle to exercise, training and ischemi and to evaluate if magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could be used to measure regional muscle cross-sectional area, muscle perfusion and detect muscle ischemia in patients with intermittent claudication. For this purpose studies were performed on 29 healthy young volunteers and 7 patients with intermittent claudication. READ MORE
