  1. 16. Design of Glutathione Transferase Variants for Novel Activities with Alternative Substrates

    Author : Abeer Shokeer; Bengt Mannervik; Francoise Raffalli-Mathieu; David Josephy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : Glutathione transferases (GSTs) play a pivotal role in cellular defense, since they are main contributors to the inactivation of genotoxic compounds of exogenous and endogenous origins. Directed evolution was used to improve the catalytic activities of Theta class GST T1-1 toward different substrates. READ MORE

  2. 17. More than just enduring − Mental health and well-being among Swedish young adults who ceased self-injuring since adolescence

    Author : Benjamin Claréus; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; self-injury; self-harm; cessation; recovery; adolescence; well-being; mental health;

    Abstract : Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is an umbrella term for non-lethal behaviours that are unlikely to be intended as suicidal, such as cutting, hitting, or burning oneself. The aims of this dissertation were to investigate i) the mental health and well-being of Swedish young adults who have ceased engaging in NSSI since adolescence, and ii) the psychosocial conditions that facilitate NSSI cessation and psychological growth during this period. 3. 18. Excited State Aromaticity and Antiaromaticity : Fundamental Studies and Applications

    Author : Rabia Ayub; Henrik Ottosson; Manabu Abe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baird s rule; Clar s rule; Computational quantum chemistry; Excited state aromaticity; Excited state aromaticity indicators; Organic photochemistry; Polycyclic conjugated hydrocarbons; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The central theme of this thesis is the ability to tune various molecular properties by controlling and utilizing aromaticity and antiaromaticity in the lowest electronically excited states. This investigation is based on qualitative theory, quantum chemical (QC) calculations and experimental work. READ MORE

  4. 19. Contrast-enhanced MRI of human knee cartilage Clinical applications of the novel dGEMRIC technique to study glycosaminoglycan content in articular cartilage

    Author : Carl Johan Tiderius; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; exercise; osteoarthritis; anterior cruciate ligament; glycosaminoglycan; MRI; cartilage; dGEMRIC; knee;

    Abstract : Delayed gadolinium-enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC) is a new technique to study cartilage glycosaminoglycan (GAG) content. The negatively charged contrast agent Gd-DTPA2-, injected intravenously, distributes in the cartilage inversely to the likewise negatively charged GAG. READ MORE

  5. 20. Internal rotation in molecules : a nuclear magnetic resonance relaxation study

    Author : Anders Ericsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In order to study the internal rotation of methyl-type groups in molecules, the carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spin-lattice relaxation times (T1) and nuclear Overhauser enhancement factors (n) are measured for some terpenes (borneol, camphor, isopinocampheol and α-pinene), for octafluorotoluene and for 1-methylnaphtalene. In addition, deuterium NMR T1 data are presented for 1-methylnaphtalene-d10. READ MORE
