  1. 6. tRNA Gene Structures in Bacteria

    Author : B. M. Fredrik Pettersson; Leif A. Kirsebom; Anders Byström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : In bacteria, tRNA molecules are produced as precursors with additional nucleotides both upstream and downstream of the tRNA coding sequence. To generate a mature tRNA, the endoribonuclease RNase P removes the upstream sequence, while a number of enzymes can remove the downstream sequence. READ MORE

  2. 7. The ribosome, stringent factor and the bacterial stringent response

    Author : Rose-Marie Jenvert; Lovisa Holmberg Schiavone; Suparna Sanyal; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribosome; stringent factor; stringent response; tRNA; ribosomal protein L11; pppGpp; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; cellbiologi; Cellbiology;

    Abstract : The stringent response plays a significant role in the survival of bacteria during different environmental conditions. It is activated by the binding of stringent factor (SF) to stalled ribosomes that have an unacylated tRNA in the ribosomal A-site which leads to the synthesis of (p)ppGpp. READ MORE

  3. 8. Functional studies of Escherichia coli stringent response factor RelA

    Author : Ievgen Dzhygyr; Vasili Hauryliuk; Jörgen Johansson; Greg Bokinsky; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stringent response; RelA; p ppGpp; ribosome; tRNA; metabolism regulation; allosteric regulation; translation; nutritional stress; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : RelA is a ribosome associated multi-domain enzyme, which plays a crucial role in adaptation ofEscherichia coli to nutritional stress as such as amino acid deficiency. It detects the deficiency of aminoacids in the cell by monitoring whether a tRNA at the acceptor site (A-site) of the ribosome is chargedwith amino acid or not. READ MORE

  4. 9. Dynamics in Protein Synthesis, Structural Studies of Translation Factors

    Author : Martin Laurberg; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biophysics; Flexibility; Fusidic Acid; tRNA; Translation Factors; Ribosome; Molekylär biofysik;

    Abstract : Protein biosynthesis is performed on ribosomes. The ribosome is a complex of ribosomal RNA and proteins forming two subunits. A messenger RNA strand is decoded on the small subunit by charged aminoacyl transfer RNA (aa-tRNA) molecules and each tRNA molecule delivers its amino acid to the growing polypeptide chain on the large subunit. 5. 10. Function of wobble nucleoside modifications in tRNAs of Salmonella enterica Serovar Typhimurium

    Author : Peng Chen; Glenn R. Björk; Paul Agris; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; tRNA; wobble nucleoside; frameshifting; translation; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Transfer RNA from all organisms has modified nucleosides and position 34 (the wobble position) is one of the most extensively modified positions. Some wobble nucleoside modifications restrict codon choice (e.g. 5-methylaminomethyl-2-thiouridine, mnm5s2U) while some extend the decoding capacity (e. READ MORE
