  1. 1. Calcium Responses in the Renal Afferent Arteriole to Angiotensin II and Norepinephrine Stimulation

    Author : Mark Kornfeld; Klinisk neurofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; norepinephrine; angiotensin II; smooth muscle cells; afferent arteriole; calcium; Kidney; renal hemodynamics; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Studies were performed to investigate the influence of the vasoconstrictors angiotensin II (AII) and norepinephrine (NE) on calcium metabolism in smooth muscle cells of afferent arterioles. Fura-2 and image analysis techniques were used to evaluate calcium responses in the proximal and distal parts of afferent arterioles with attached glomeruli. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nitric oxide generation from nitroglycerin and other no-donors measured in the lung and studies on nitrate tolerance in the cardiovascular system

    Author : Per Agvald; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Exhaled; nitric oxide; nitroglycerin; nitrite; temperature; tolerance; hypoxia;

    Abstract : Nitroglycerin (GTN) and compounds referred to as nitrovasodilators or NOdonors are frequently used in the treatment of ischemic heart disease The common mode of action for these drugs is liberation of nitric oxide (NO). Nitric oxide evokes relaxation of smooth muscle through activation of guanylate cyclase with subsequent formation of eGMP. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of ligand- and temperature-gated ion channels using microfluidic methods

    Author : Maria Millingen; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; solution exchange; desensitization; temperature-gated; ion channel; temperature control; ligand-gated; TRPV1; GABAA receptor; microfluidics;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the studies of the GABAA receptor, a ligand-gated ion channel, and the ligand- and temperature-gated ion channel TRPV1. The desensitization behavior of both of these proteins has been studied for different conditions, using a microfluidic device for superfusion. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effects of S(+)-, R(-)- and racemic ketamine on the brain

    Author : Anders Schmidt; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []

    Abstract : Racemic ketamine, introduced in the mid-sixties, contains equal proportions of the enantiomersS(+)- and R(–)-ketamine. Early clinical reports indicated unfavourable effectson intracranial pressure (ICP) and on the cerebral circulation. Current literature on thistopic is however sparse, and available reports are divergent. READ MORE
