    Abstract : Tungsten (W) is listed among the European Union (EU) critical raw materials (CRMs) for its supply risk and economic importance. Primarily, tungsten is produced from scheelite and wolframite mineral ores with 0.08-1.5% tungsten trioxide (WO3) grade. READ MORE

  2. 2. Environmental, Resource and Health Assessments of Hard Materials and Material Substitution: The Cases of Cemented Carbide and Polycrystalline Diamond

    Author : Anna Furberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Life cycle assessment; polycrystalline diamond; disability-adjusted life years; material flow analysis; machining tools; cemented carbide;

    Abstract : The conventional hard material used in manufacturing industry, cemented carbide (WC-Co), mainly consists of the geochemically scarce elements tungsten and cobalt. This use of scarce resources could potentially be avoided by a material substitution to the more abundant and largely carbon-based material polycrystalline diamond (PCD). READ MORE

  3. 3. Shrinkage and Related Properties of Alkali-Activated Binders Based on High MgO Blast Furnace Slag

    Author : Abeer Humad; Andrzej Cwirzen; John L. Provis; Karin Habermehl-Cwirzen; Andrzej Garbacz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []

    Abstract : Concrete is the second most used material in the world just after water. A drawback is that it is mostly based on Portland cement, which has an extremely high carbon footprint reaching a staggering 900 kg/tonne. The carbon dioxide emissions related to the production of the Portland cement accounts for nearly 8 % of the global total. READ MORE
