  1. 11. Resistivity investigation and monitoring for detection of internal erosion and anomalous seepage in embankment dams

    Author : Pontus Sjödahl; Teknisk geologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; internal erosion; Hydrogeology; geographical and geological engineering; time-lapse inversion; inversion; monitoring; modelling; resistivity; detection; leakage; seepage; teknisk geografi; embankment dam;

    Abstract : Methods for monitoring seepage and detecting internal erosion are essential for the safety evaluation of embankment dams. Internal erosion is one of the major reasons for embankment dam failures, and there are several tenths of thousands of large embankment dams in the world. READ MORE

  2. 12. Estimation of industrial dust using exposure-profiling method

    Author : Qi Jia; John McManus; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : Dust is a primary cause for air quality deterioration, as well as a potential health hazard. Mining and construction sites, in particular, are the most profound in dust generation. The possible source activities are drilling, loading, transporting, dumping, crushing, stockpiles, waste rock and unprotected open surfaces, etc. READ MORE

  3. 13. Excess pore water pressure generation in crushed and fine granular materials under cyclic traffic loads

    Author : Tan Manh Do; Jan Laue; Hans Mattsson; Qi Jia; Ivo Herle; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Excess pore water pressure can develop in subgrades of railway and pavement substructures due to cyclic loading from heavy traffic, leading to the migration of fine particles into upper layers. This migration can clog pores and diminish the drainage capacity of upper layers,negatively impacting the long-term performance of sub-structures and service life, ultimately risking failure. 4. 14. Comparison of the geochemistry of the regulated Lule River and the unregulated Kalix River, Northern Sweden

    Author : Magali Collomp; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : Hydropower production in Sweden represents nearly 50% of the total electricity production in Sweden. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of stream regulation on the geochemistry of the Lule River, northern Sweden, which is the largest and the most important river for waterpower production in Sweden.
