  1. 1. Cell-penetrating peptide targeting mitochondria : Design, synthesis, characterization, and biological effects

    Author : Carmine Pasquale Cerrato; Ülo Langel; Lena Mäler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cell-penetrating peptide; mitochondrial targeting; ROS reduction; mitochondrial membrane potential; antioxidant activity; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : More than twenty years after the discovery of the first cell-penetrating peptide (CPP), a large number of both naturally occurring as well as engineered CPPs have been discovered. Generally, CPPs are short polycationic sequences of less than 30 amino acids that are able to translocate different cargoes into cells. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of Substance P 1–7 Related Peptides and Peptidomimetics : Targeting Neuropathic Pain

    Author : Anna Skogh; Anja Sandström; Christian Sköld; Rebecca Fransson; Philip Thompson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Substance P 1–7; Peptidomimetics; Solid-phase Peptide Synthesis SPPS ; Palladium catalysis; Carbonylation; Imidazole; Bioisostere; Neuropathic pain; Allodynia; Structure-activity relationships; Medicinal Chemistry; Läkemedelskemi;

    Abstract : The neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg1-Pro2-Lys3-Pro4-Gln5-Gln6-Phe7-OH) and its amidated analogue SP1–7 amide, have displayed intriguing effects in experimental models for neuropathic pain acting on a specific, yet unknown SP1–7 target. The aim of this thesis was to design and synthesise SP1–7 related peptides and peptidomimetics, to be used as research tools to study the SP1–7 system, and to serve as drug leads in the neuropathic pain area. 3. 3. Development of Peptide Binders : Applied to Human CRP, Carbonic Anhydrase (II, IX) and Lysine Demethylase 1

    Author : Jie Yang; Jan Kihlberg; Morten Grötli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polypeptide conjugates; molecular recognition; peptide cyclization; protein targets;

    Abstract : In this thesis, a polypeptide binder concept is illustrated. By conjugation to a set of sixteen polypeptides, a small binding molecule can evolve into a polypeptide binder with increased affinity and selectivity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Rational modifications of cell-penetrating peptides for drug delivery : Applications in tumor targeting and oligonucleotide delivery

    Author : Maarja Mäe; Ülo Langel; Edvard Smith; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell-penetrating peptide; oligonucleotide; drug delivery; tumor targeting; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Molecular Neurobiology; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi;

    Abstract : High molecular weight biomolecules are becoming important in the development of new therapeutics. However, their size and nature creates a major limitation for their application – poor penetration through biological membranes. READ MORE
