  1. 1. Ditransitives in Swedish : A Usage-Based Study of the Double Object Construction and Semantically Equivalent Prepositional Object Constructions 1800–2016

    Author : Fredrik Valdeson; Cecilia Falk; Jan Svanlund; Catrin Norrby; Elena Smirnova; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; ditransitives; double object construction; dative alternation; Late Modern Swedish; construction grammar; usage-based; lexical richness; language change; semantic change; semantic maps; taxonomic networks; horizontal links; Scandinavian Languages; nordiska språk;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the use of the Swedish double object construction (the DOC) and compares this with the use of three semantically equivalent prepositional object constructions (POCs): the till-POC, the åt-POC and the för-POC. The thesis has a diachronic perspective, investigating changes in the use of these four constructions between 1800 and 2016. READ MORE

  2. 2. Structure and Stability of Ecological Networks : The role of dynamic dimensionality and species variability in resource use

    Author : David Gilljam; Bo Ebenman; Peter Münger; José Montoya; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The main focus of this thesis is on the response of ecological communities to environmental variability and species loss. My approach is theoretical; I use mathematical models of networks where species population dynamics are described by ordinary differential equations. READ MORE

  3. 3. Microbial Communities in Boreal Peatlands : Responses to Climate Change and Atmospheric Nitrogen and Sulfur Depositions

    Author : Magalí Martí Genero; Bo Svensson; Åsa Danielsson; Torben Christensen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbial communities; methanogens; plant communities; peatland; temperature; nitrogen; long-term; field experiment; high-throughput sequencing; Microbiella samhällen; metanogener; växtsamhällen; myrar; torv; temperatur; kväve; långtid; fältexperiment; high-throughput-sekvensering;

    Abstract : Myrmarker har en stor roll i regleringen av den globala kolbalansen och koncentrationerna av koldioxid och metan i atmosfären, vilket gör dem till speciellt viktiga ekosystem ur ett klimatförandringsperspektiv. Förändringar av myrmarker genom naturlig utveckling eller antropogen påverkan kan därför få långtgående störningar av myrars klimatreglerande funktion. READ MORE

  4. 4. Population Dynamics and Conservation of the Sand Lizard (Lacerta agilis) on the Edge of its Range

    Author : Sven-Åke Berglind; Pekka Pamilo; Per Sjögren-Gulve; Coulson Tim; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; demography; extinction; habitat; Lacerta agilis; management; metapopulation; peripheral populations; population dynamics; population viability analysis; reintroduction; reptiles; umbrella species; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Abstract : The sand lizard (Lacerta agilis) reaches the northern periphery of its distribution in south-central Sweden, where small, isolated relict populations occur in pine heath forests on sandy sediments. Modern forestry and fire suppression have reduced the amount of suitable open habitat for the species in this area and seem to be important for its decline. READ MORE

  5. 5. Machine learning and data-parallel processing for viral metagenomics

    Author : Zurab Bzhalava; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : More than 2 million cancer cases around the world each year are caused by viruses. In addition, there are epidemiological indications that other cancer-associated viruses may also exist. However, the identification of highly divergent and yet unknown viruses in human biospecimens is one of the biggest challenges in bio- informatics. READ MORE
