1. microRNAs: from biogenesis to organismal tracing
Abstract : MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short noncoding RNAs of around 22 nucleotides in length, which help to shape the expression of most mRNAs. Perturbation of miRNA expression has revealed a variety of defects in development, cell specification, physiology and behavior. READ MORE

2. Surface proteins of Finegoldia magna interacting with the human host
Abstract : Finegoldia magna is a Gram-positive anaerobe and a member of the normal human microflora. This bacterium is also an opportunistic pathogen and isolated from ~10% of all anaerobic infections. Reoccurring taxonomical changes and the anaerobic growth have contributed to the neglect of F. magna. READ MORE

3. Exploring the species boundaries in terrestrial clitellates (Annelida: Clitellata)
Abstract : The biological diversity in the soil is much higher than most people can imagine, and a very important group of animals living there are earthworms and other clitellate worms. It has been found that several clitellate morphospecies are in fact complexes of so called cryptic species, and the number of species in this group may be much higher than previously believed. 4. A multivariate approach to the analysis of phytoplankton pigments
Abstract : Photosynthetic pigments are routinely determined in investigations of marine and freshwater environments, chlorophyll is used as an estimator of phytoplankton biomass. Photosynthetic pigments are also widely used to characterise phytoplankton taxonomic composition. READ MORE

5. Antiparasitic metabolites from plants used in the Tacana Bolivian native tribe : Traditional medicine, an overview of natural products with medicinal interest
Abstract : The thesis aims to contribute to the preservation of traditional medicinal knowledge of the Tacana Bolivian native tribe, as well as to the isolation and characterization of antiparasitic metabolites from plants used for the treatment of endemic diseases. A selection of medicinal plants, made in collaboration with the Tacana communities who decided which plants have a specific medicinal propose, were collected and identified by the national herbarium of Bolivia, and confirmed by healers from the most representative communities.
