  1. 16. Approaches to energy efficient building development : studying under Chinese contexts

    Author : Zhenhong Gu; Ronald Wennersten; Per Heiselberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy efficiency; China; Passive House; Low Exergy system; Built Environmental Assessment; LCA; Swedish housing; Hammarby Sjöstad; Eco-village; Game theory; System theory; Soft Systems Methodology; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a general description of approaches to energy efficient building development under Chinese contexts. The purpose of the work is to discuss how Chinese building development can be approved from an energy saving perspective. Building development is a complicated process that relates to many stakeholders’ interests. READ MORE

  2. 17. Free software to open hardware: Critical theory on the frontiers of hacking

    Author : Johan Söderberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; hackers; constructivism; innovation; free software; critical theory; immanent critique; technology; lay expertise; open hardware;

    Abstract : Starting from the experiences of hackers developing free software and open hardware, this thesis addresses some key and recurrent themes in the field of Science and Technology Studies (STS). It poses the question: how are technologies conceptualised, constructed and used in ways that render some aspects of them transparent, while leaving others opaque? This question is complicated by the fact that what is visible and transparent to some will remain opaque to others, depending on the level of technical expertise commanded. READ MORE

  3. 18. Modelling drivers of energy demand in the European Union building sector

    Author : Eoin Ó Broin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EU; Elasticities; Heating; Policy; Bottom-up; Top-down; Efficiency; Residential;

    Abstract : In the context of ongoing initiatives within the European Union (EU) to tackle global warming and to secure future energy supplies, the building sector is often cited as offering strong potential for energy savings. The primary aims of this thesis are to analyse the historical data related to EU building and to generate scenarios that highlight the technical and non-technical parameters that affect the energy demands (and thereby the potentials for savings) of the building sector. 4. 19. Valorization of Kraft Lignin by Fractionation and Chemical Modifications for Different Applications

    Author : Selda Aminzadeh; Mikael Lindström; Hasan Jameel; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lignin Valorization- LignoBoost Lignin-Clean Flow Black Lignin- Characterization-Chemical modifications-Fractionation-applications; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : AbstractLignin is one of the most abundant biopolymers. Approximately 70 million tons of technical lignin is generated annually, but only little is used for products other than energy. The complexity of lignin hinders full utilization in high-value products and materials. READ MORE

  5. 20. Analysis of RNA and DNA sequencing data : Improved bioinformatics applications

    Author : Benjamín Sigurgeirsson; Joakim Lundeberg; Simon Anders; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RNA sequencing; exome sequencing; bioinformatics; gene expression; differential expression; variant calling; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Massively parallel sequencing has rapidly revolutionized DNA and RNA research. Sample preparations are steadfastly advancing, sequencing costs have plummeted and throughput is ever growing. This progress has resulted in exponential growth in data generation with a corresponding demand for bioinformatic solutions. READ MORE
