  1. 1. Technological properties of rock aggregates

    Author : Eva Johansson; Richard Prikryl; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och Berganläggningsteknik;

    Abstract : The commission of technical geology is to apply geological knowledge to the field of constructional engineering, mining technology, environmental protection, architecture etc. The sector of infrastructure is highly dependent on the production of crushed rock materials as the main constituent of e.g. road and railway constructions. 2. 2. Drivers of global land use change : are increasing demands for food and bioenergy offset by technological change and yield increase?

    Author : Kerstin Engstrom; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Global land use change; food demands; bioenergy demands; technological change; modelling; scenarios; uncertainty;

    Abstract : Globally, the food and energy demands of the growing global population are rising and require increased agricultural production. Additionally, climate change will have adverse effects on agricultural productivity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Milk Genomics – Impact of Genetic Polymorphism on Bovine Milk Composition and Processability

    Author : Maria Glantz; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; milk genomics; bovine milk; milk composition; technological properties; processability; cheese; quantitative genetic evaluation; single gene effect; genomic selection; genetic polymorphism; leptin; direct genomic value;

    Abstract : Milk genomics is a new area of research that explores the relations between cow genetics and milk characteristics. Identifying the genes controlling compositional and technological traits of milk will give opportunities to select cows for targeted milk production. In this thesis, the impact of different genetic approaches, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Energy Efficiency Versus Gains in Consumer Amenities

    Author : Frances Sprei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; energy efficiency; residential buildings; service features; Sweden; passenger cars; fuel consumption; downsizing; technological development;

    Abstract : This thesis, consisting of five papers, addresses the question of what share of technological development results in increased energy efficiency rather than offsetting improved consumer services in the form of gains in consumer amenities? In the first paper economic and organizational explanations are given for stagnating energy efficiency trends in the Swedish residential building sector. The results show that changes in energy prices to a large extent explain the observed stagnation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Challenges for end-use energy efficiency

    Author : Frances Sprei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; technological development; Swedish building sector; downsizing; Energy efficiency; fuel consumption; market barriers;

    Abstract : The scientific community has reached close to a consensus that anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases are causing a change of the global climate. These emissions arise foremost from the burning of fossil fuels, and secondly from land use change. READ MORE
