  1. 1. Tailoring adhesion and wetting properties of cellulose fibers and model surfaces

    Author : Emil Gustafsson; Lars Wågberg; Monika Österberg; Mikael Hedenqvist; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The layer-by-layer (LbL) technique was used to modify the surface of cellulose fibers by consecutive adsorption of poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) followed by a final adsorbed layer of anionic paraffin wax colloids. Paper hand sheets made from the modified fibers were found to be highly hydrophobic with a contact angle of 150°. READ MORE

  2. 2. Application of cohesive modeling in joining technology : Thick adhesive layers and rivet joints

    Author : Saeed Salimi; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Teknik; Technology;

    Abstract : This thesis summarizes the development of cohesive modeling of joints. It presents some new developments regarding the effects of non-zero thickness of adhesive layers and a novel approach of using the concept of cohesive modeling to characterize the failure behavior of rivet joints. 3. 3. Ceria-based Nanostructured Materials for Low-Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

    Author : Ying Ma; Mamoun Muhammed; Bin Zhu; Randa Abdel-Karim; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : As one of the most efficient and environmentally benign energy conversion devices, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) have attracted much attention in recent years. Conventional SOFC with yttria-stabilized zirconia as electrolyte require high operation temperature (800-1000 °C), which causes significant problems like material degradation, as well as other technological complications and economic barrier for wider applications. 4. 4. Spin valves and spin-torque oscillators with perpendicualr magnetic anisotropy

    Author : Seyed Majid Mohseni Armaki; Johan Åkerman; Andrew Kent; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Spin torque oscillator; perpendicular magnetic anisotropy; SRA - ICT; SRA - Informations- och kommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract : Researches in spintronics, especially those remarkably classified in the current induced spin-transfer torque (STT) framework, circumvent challenges with different materials and geometries. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) materials are showing capability of holding promise to be employed in STT based spintronics elements, e.g. READ MORE

  5. 5. Study of quantum dots on solar energy applications

    Author : Xiangjun Shang; Ying Fu; Rajeev Ahuja; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Epitaxial InAs quantum dot solar cell;

    Abstract : This thesis studies p-i-n GaAs solar cells with self-assembled InAs quantum dots (QDs) inserted. The values of this work lie in three aspects. READ MORE
