  1. 21. Heavy metals in municipal solid waste deposits

    Author : Peter Flyhammar; Institutioner vid LTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; teknisk geologi; Hydrogeologi; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; substrate; transformation; emission; environment; MSW; heavy metals; accumulation; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Abstract : Extensive use of heavy metals in modern society influences routes followed by fluxes on the surface of the Earth. The changed flow paths may be harmful for the balance of biological systems at different levels, micro-organisms, human beings and whole ecosystems, since the toxicity of heavy metals is determined by their concentrations and chemical forms. 2. 22. Application of the SASW-technique in geotechnical in-situ testing

    Author : Mats Svensson; Institutioner vid LTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; teknisk geologi; Hydrogeologi; Spectral Analysis of Surface Waves; shear modulus; SASW; multichannel; inversion; Gmax; teknisk geografi; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; Civil engineering; hydraulic engineering; offshore technology; soil mechanics; Väg- och vattenbyggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : With the main aim to test the applicability of the surface wave seismic technique Spectral Analysis of Surface Waves (SASW), used for determination of the shear stiffness (shear modulus - Gmax), four areas of applications have been studied. The four areas have been sites with natural geological conditions, sites where non destructive testing is necessary, pavement testing and multichannel testing. READ MORE

  3. 23. Swash Processes and Dune Erosion: Emphasis on Vessel-Generated Waves

    Author : Li Erikson; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Civil engineering; hydraulic engineering; geomorfologi; Fysisk geografi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Naturvetenskap; Physical geography; Natural science; swash; erosion; vessel-generated waves; dunes; offshore technology; soil mechanics; Väg- och vattenbyggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : In navigable waterways, owing to the relatively short fetches for wind wave generation, the free waves generated by moving vessels often produce the dominant wave action with respect to erosion of the shore. In response to the fairly recent introduction of high-speed ferries, combined with a planned expansion within the passenger- and car-carrying ship market, the need to model and predict coastline changes as a result of exposure to vessel-generated waves has become a topic of increased research. 4. 24. Water resources in Iceland - Impacts of climate variability and climate change

    Author : Jona Finndis Jonsdottir; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; marklära; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; geomorphology; runoff map; projection of future runoff; Environmental studies; Miljöstudier; Physical geography; hydrological modelling; trends; climate change; climate variability; Iceland; water resources; offshore technology; soil mechanics; Väg- och vattenbyggnadsteknik; kartografi; klimatologi; Civil engineering; hydraulic engineering;

    Abstract : Hydropower is the main source of electricity production in Iceland. In 2005, 80.8% of all electricity was generated by hydropower (7015 GWh). Hydropower production is affected both by variations and changes in discharge. READ MORE
