1. Effect of elevated pCO2 and environmental oxazepam on the behavior and physiology of teleost fish
Abstract : This doctoral thesis investigated the effect of two aquatic pollutants on the behavior and physiology of teleost fish: i) elevated concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the context of ocean acidification and ii) low concentrations of the anxiolytic pharmaceutical oxazepam in the context of pharmaceutical pollution.Anthropogenic emissions of CO2 are lowering the pH of the oceans. 2. Oxidative Damage in Fish Used as Biomarkers in Field and Laboratory Studies
Abstract : Many toxic xenobiotics entering into the aquatic environment exert their effects through redox cycling. Oxidative stress, incorporating both antioxidant defences as well as oxidative damage, is a common effect in organisms exposed to xenobiotics in their environment. READ MORE

3. Developmental and reproductive regulation of NR5A genes in teleosts
Abstract : In mammals sex chromosomes direct and initiate the development of male and female gonads and subsequently secondary sex characteristics. In most vertebrates each individual is pre-destined to either become male or female. READ MORE

4. Morphological and Physiological Adaptations in Cichlid Crystalline Lenses
Abstract : Vertebrate eyes share a common ancestry as well as the basic design with a pupil, a retina and a lens. The lens is essential for perceiving the details in the world around us and ensures that a sharp image of the surroundings is focused onto the photoreceptors in the retina. READ MORE
