  1. 11. Telomeres and the brain : an investigation into the relationships of leukocyte telomere length with functional and structural attributes of the brain

    Author : Mikael Wikgren; Karl-Fredrik Norrback; Rolf Adolfsson; Göran Roos; Thomas Karlsson; Brenda Penninx; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; APOE; aging; atrophy; brain; cognition; cortisol; depression; hippocampus; HPA axis; MRI; stress; telomere length; white matter hyper-intensities.;

    Abstract : Telomeres are the outermost parts of linear chromosomes. They consist of tandemly repeated non-coding short nucleotide sequences (TTAGGG in all vertebrates), in humans spanning over the last 2 to 15 kilobase pairs of the chromosome. Due to the end-replication problem, telomeres shorten with each cellular division. READ MORE

  2. 12. Studies of molecular mechanisms of telomere maintenance in Naumovozyma castellii

    Author : Ahu Karademir Andersson; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : YEAST; Saccharomyces castellii; Naumovozyma castellii; Processvity; Telomerase; Telomere; ALT; Strain engineering;

    Abstract : Telomeres are special DNA-protein structures that protect ends of chromosomes from being recognized as double-strand breaks. Telomeres consist of tandemly repeated units of TG-rich DNA and associate with telomere-specific proteins. READ MORE

  3. 13. Novel mechanisms in depression: focus on telomere biology and epigenetic regulation

    Author : Yabin Wei; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Telomere length;

    Abstract : Depression is a complex disorder with an average lifetime prevalence from 11.1% to 14.6%. It causes serious disability and is a significant public health problem worldwide. READ MORE

  4. 14. DNA methylation as a prognostic marker i acute lymphoblastic leukemia

    Author : Magnus Borssén; Sofie Degerman; Kim Vettenranta; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; DNA methylation; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; T-ALL; Relapse; Telomere length; patologi; Pathology; Pediatrics; pediatrik;

    Abstract : Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common childhood malignancy. Most ALL cases originate from immature B-cells (BCP-ALL) and are characterized by reoccurring structural genetic aberrations. These aberrations hold information of the pathogenesis of ALL and are used for risk stratification in treatment. READ MORE

  5. 15. Fine and ultrafine particle exposure: Health effects and biomarkers

    Author : Yiyi Xu; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Keywords : particulate matter; Occupational Exposure : adverse effects; mitochondrial dna; telomere length;

    Abstract : Particle, especially fine and ultrafine particle exposure has been linked to lower airway infections, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), ischemic heart disease, stroke and cancer. The underlying mechanisms are under active investigation, and are still not fully understood. READ MORE
