1. Microvascular inflammatory response in the skin
Abstract : This thesis examines the microvascular inflammatory response in the skin. The microvascular response includes vasodilatation and plasma exudation. In the first three studies, the combined response was measured in guinea pig skin with a technique based on detection of radiolabelled protein. READ MORE

2. Lung hyaluronan and lung water in the perinatal period
Abstract : Hyaluronan is an important component of the lung extracellular matrix, with a high capacity for water immobilization, but information on perinatal changes in the lung hyaluronan concentration and their association with changes in the lung water content is limited. In this study, conducted both in rabbit pups and in human infants, we investigated changes in the hyaluronan concentration and distribution in the lung and in the lung water content after preterm or term birth, and changes produced by common antenatal and postnatal pathological conditions and treatments. 3. Clinical-Pharmacokinetic Aspects of Prolonged Effect Duration as Illustrated by β2-Agonists
Abstract : Regularity is a key element of maintenance drug treatment; compliance is crucial for treatment success. Once- or twice-daily intake of a drug is always easier to comply with than regimens requiring more frequent dosing. READ MORE

4. Function of B2-adrenoceptors on alveolar macrophages
Abstract : B2-Agonists are very effective drugs for bronchodilatation, provide a rapid relief of symptoms in asthma, and are recommended as first line treatment, together with steroids. The relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles is a well-established effect of B-agonists, but their effects on inflammatory cells in the airways are less certain. READ MORE

5. Aspects of aqueous humor dynamics : Studies in vivo and in vitro
Abstract : The purpose of the present investigation was to study the effects of PGF2α-l-isopropylester, some neuropeptides, and pharmacological agents on aqueous humor dynamics and intraocular pressure (IOP) in vivo and on adenylate cyclase activity in the nonpigmented ciliary epithelium (NPE) in vitro.Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) caused a dose-dependent increase in cAMP formation, indicating that the NPE contains receptors for PACAP and VIP coupled to adenylate cyclase activation.
