  1. 11. Conifer chemical defense : Rugulation of bark beetle colonization and pheromone emission

    Author : Tao Zhao; Anna-Karin Borg-Karlson; Irena Valterova; KTH; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Picea abies; Ips typographus; Ceratocystis polonica; methyl jasmonate; windstorm; stress response; terpenes; phenols; colonization; pheromone emission; Plant and forest protection; Växt- och skogsskydd;

    Abstract : Terpenes and phenols are of importance in conifer defense against insects and pathogens. Knowledge about tree chemical defense is vital for developing practical methods to maintain healthy forests. READ MORE

  2. 12. Emissions of volatile organic compounds from wood

    Author : Karin Granström; Bengt Månsson; Ann-Margret Strömvall; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VOC; terpenes; drying; wood; emissions; spouted bed; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : The central aim of this thesis is to support the efforts to counteract certain environmental problems caused by emissions of volatile organic compounds. The purpose of this work was (1) to develop a method to establish the amount of emitted substances from dryers, (2) to determine the effect of drying medium temperature and end moisture content of the processed material on emissions of monoterpenes and other hydrocarbons, (3) to examine the emissions of monoterpenes during production of pellets, and (4) to examine the natural emissions from forests with an eye to implications for modelling. 3. 13. Chemical defence in Norway spruce

    Author : Marie Danielsson; Anna-Karin Borg-Karlson; Anders Backlund; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; volatiles; terpenes; green leaf volatiles; stilbenes; stress response; nepetalactone; Picea abies; Hylobius abietis; Cinara pilicornis; Oligonychus ununguis; Heterobasidion annosum; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Norway spruce (Picea abies) responds to stress by biosynthesis of chemical substances, which can deter invading insects or pathogens. Some of these substances are volatile and can be emitted to the surroundings while others are accumulated within the tree. READ MORE

  4. 14. Characterization of Secondary Metabolites from Natural Sources

    Author : Gilda Erosa; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
