  1. 1. The Language of Textiles : Description and Judgement on Textile Pattern Composition

    Author : Siri Homlong; Christina Fjellström; Edith Skjeggestad; Lillemor Abrahamsson; Liv Merete Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Arts and literature; Textile; Pattern; Design; Amish; Quilt; Aesthetic Qualities; Repertory grid method; Natural Color System; Sloyd; Implicit knowledge; Communication; Structure of attention; Estetiska ämnen;

    Abstract : The present study concerns ways to describe, judge and discuss aesthetic qualities of designed textile patterns. Specific aims were to study how colours and compositions used in Old Amish Quilts can be systematically described, to study how simple and complex patterns in printed textile fabrics are perceived and expressed verbally and to study judgements, concepts and values in relation to designed textile patterns as expressed by schoolchildren, consumers, teachers of textile handicraft and designers. 2. 2. Dynamic Textile Patterns: designing with smart textiles

    Author : Linda Worbin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Textile design; dynamic textile pattern; smart textile; practice-based design research; thermo-chromic; interaction design; experimental design; electroluminescent;

    Abstract : New smart textile materials have been investigated and show that today`s textile patterns can be designed to offer more than traditional textile patterns do. The prototypes of dynamic textile patterns designed in this thesis are brought about in a new design process that takes smart textile materials into consideration. READ MORE

  3. 3. Composing over time, temporal patterns : in Textile Design

    Author : Barbara Jansen; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; temporal patterns; textile design; Textiles and fashion; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis investigates through practice a new field of textile design exploring the visual effects of moving light as a continuous time-based medium. Thereby, the textile design pattern reveals its composition, not in one moment of time any more, but in fact over time. READ MORE

  4. 4. Composing over time, temporal patterns : in Textile Design

    Author : Barbara Jansen; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; temporal patterns; textile design; Textiles and Fashion General ; Textil och mode generell ;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is a first attempt investigating a new field, exploring the visual effects of movement using light as a continuous time-based medium. Composing over time, temporal patterns - in Textile Design is a practice based research project that investigates the following research question: What does it mean, if time and change – constant movement – becomes part of the textile design expression? The research question has been investigated in a number of experiments that explore the visual effects of movement using light integrated into textile structures as a medium. READ MORE

  5. 5. Surface patterns, spatiality and pattern relations in textile design

    Author : Tonje Kristensen Johnstone; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Surface patterns; textile design; spatiality; spatial definers; design variables; pattern relations; conceptual spatial determinations; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis focuses on surface patterns, spatiality, and pattern relations in textile design, and aims to explore surface patterns as spatial definers and what they mean in the context of surface patterns. A secondary focus relates to applying conceptual spatial determinations as alternative design variables in design processes, and exploring how these could be used to define and analyse pattern relations.
