6. Boundary Behavior of p-Laplace Type Equations
Abstract : This thesis consists of six scientific papers, an introduction and a summary. All six papers concern the boundary behavior of non-negative solutions to partial differential equations.Paper I concerns solutions to certain p-Laplace type operators with variable coefficients. READ MORE

7. The Hammer and the Nail : Interdisciplinarity and Problem Solving in Sustainability Science
Abstract : This is a thesis about interdisciplinarity, scientific integration, and problem solving in sustainability science. Sustainability science is an emerging and highly interdisciplinary field that seeks to integrate vastly differentiated bodies of knowledge in addressing the challenge of transitioning contemporary societies towards sustainability. 8. Experimental study of the rotating-disk boundary-layer flow
Abstract : Rotating-disk flow has been investigated not only as a simple model of cross flow instability to compare with swept-wing flow but also for industrial flow applications with rotating configurations. However the exact nature of laminar-turbulent transi- tion on the rotating-disk flow is still major problem and further research is required for it to be fully understood, in particular, the laminar-turbulent transition process with absolute instability. 9. 231Pa, 230Th and 232Th as tracers of deep water circulation and particle transport : Insights from the Mediterranean Sea and the Arctic Ocean
Abstract : The naturally occurring U and Th-series radionuclides have shown to have a considerable importance for the understanding of biogeochemical processes on Earth and in the ocean. In this thesis, the isotopes 230-thorium (230Th), 232-thorium (232Th) and 231-protactinium (231Pa) are used as tracers of the transport and scavenging of marine particles and water circulation. 10. Two Problems in non-linear PDE’s with Phase Transitions
Abstract : This thesis is in the field of non-linear partial differential equations (PDE), focusing on problems which show some type of phase-transition. A single phase Hele-Shaw flow models a Newtoninan fluid which is being injected in the space between two narrowly separated parallel planes. READ MORE
