1. Groundless knowledge : a Humean solution to the problem of skepticism
Abstract : The aim of the present study is to develop a solution to the problem of skepticism about the external world ("skepticism", for short), inspired primarily by Hume's "skeptical solution" to the problem of skepticism about induction, but also by epistemological externalism and Wittgenstein's discussion of skeptical doubts in On Certainty. The author accepts certain elements in P. READ MORE

2. The soil as a source material in archaeology. : Theoretical considerations and pragmatic applications
Abstract : This thesis deals with questions on various applications using soils and sediments as sources of information in archaeological research. Human environmental impact on soils and sediments, in terms of pollution, is a well known phenomenon as the industrialisation intensified during historical times and onwards and has left strong pollutive marks. 3. Coarse-Grained Models of Ionic Solutions
Abstract : Room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) are compounds composed entirely of ions, which are liquid at temperatures below 100 degrees Celsius. Their high ionic strength and strong coupling make them useful for a number of applications, e.g. as electrolytes in supercapacitors. READ MORE

4. Free Energy and Surface Forces in polymer systems: Monte Carlo Simulation Studies
Abstract : The thesis is focused on two major subjects: - Calculation of free energy is of great help in the study of any molecular system. The free energy determines phase behaviour of colloids and polymer solutions. It also controls the conformational properties of single macromolecules, e.g. READ MORE

5. Academic Performance in Swedish Ninth Grade Students Treated for Brain Tumours
Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate how children in Sweden treated for brain tumours performed in their ninth year at school compared with matched controls. The studies investigated grades and results from national tests in the theoretical subjects of Swedish, English, and mathematics; grades in the practical and aesthetic subjects of art, crafts, music, home and consumer studies, physical education and health; and the frequency of delayed graduation and qualification for school years 10-12 (corresponding to upper-secondary school or high school).
