  1. 11. Solving the quantum scattering problem for systems of two and three charged particles

    Author : Mikhail Volkov; Nils Elander; William McCurdy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Scattering theory; three body scattering; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylfysik; Mathematical physics; Matematisk fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : A rigorous formalism for solving the Coulomb scattering problem is presented in this thesis. The approach is based on splitting the interaction potential into a finite-range part and a long-range tail part. In this representation the scattering problem can be reformulated to one which is suitable for applying exterior complex scaling. READ MORE

  2. 12. Learning physics with Controllable Worlds : Perspectives for examining and augmenting physics students' engagement with digital learning environments

    Author : Elias Euler; Bor Gregorcic; Cedric Linder; Michael C. Wittmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Controllable Worlds; digital learning environments; modeling; semi-formalisms; microworlds; social semiotics; conversation analysis; embodied cognition; disciplinary-relevant aspects; responsive teaching; variation theory; contrast; dimensions of variation; relevance structure; creativity; grounded theory; activity types; exploration; testing; engineering; Physics with specialization in Physics Education; Fysik med inriktning mot fysikens didaktik;

    Abstract : In this thesis I present a collection of case studies involving small groups of participants using ‘Controllable Worlds’—i.e., a particular class of physics digital learning environment (DLE) including simulations, ‘microworlds,’ and educational games that provides users with control over manipulable virtual environments. 3. 13. Dualities, Symmetries and Unbroken Phases in String Theory : Probing the Composite Nature of the String

    Author : Johan Engquist; Joseph Minahan; Charlotte Kristjansen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Theoretical Physics; String Theory; M-Theory; Higher Spin Gauge Theory; Super Yang-Mills Theory; Anti-de Sitter Spacetime; Singletons; Massless Higher Spin Gauge Fields; AdS CFT Correspondence; Spin Chains; Semiclassical Strings; Tensionless Limits; Conformal Symmetry; Supersymmetry; Higher Spin Gauge Symmetry; Integrability; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The thesis treats aspects of string/M-theory in anti-de Sitter spacetimes and their supersymmetric completions. By applying the AdS/CFT correspondence, as well as models of spin chains and singletons, we try to attain a better understanding of the underlying symmetries and the unbroken phases of string/M-theory. 4. 14. Topics in perturbation theory : From IBP identities to integrands

    Author : Alessandro Georgoudis; Joseph A. Minahan; Tristan McLoughlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Perturbation theory; Feynman Integrals; Integrable field theories; Correlation functions.; Theoretical Physics; Teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we present different topics in perturbation theory. We start by introducing the method of integration by parts identities, which reduces a generic Feynman integral to a linear combination of a finite basis of master integrals. READ MORE

  5. 15. Modeling of Electron Cooling : Theory, Data and Applications

    Author : Karin Rathsman; Tord Johansson; Pia Thörngren; Dieter Prasuhn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron cooling; Beam dynamics; Vlasov technique; Nonlinear damping; Monte Carlo simulations; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Nuclear Physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : The Vlasov technique is used to model the electron cooling force. Limitations of the applicability of the method is obtained by considering the perturbations of the electron plasma. READ MORE
