  1. 11. Defining RCE1 and ICMT as Therapeutic Targets in K-RAS-induced Cancer

    Author : Annika Wahlström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : RCE1; ICMT; K-RAS; CAAX proteins; MPD; lung cancer;

    Abstract : CAAX proteins, such as the RAS and RHO proteins, are recognized by a specific CAAX motif at the carboxyl terminus, which undergoes posttranslational modifications. First, a lipid group is attached to the cysteine (the “C”) of the CAAX motif by farnesyltransferase (FTase) or geranylgeranyltransferase-I (GGTase-I); second, the –AAX are removed by RAS converting enzyme 1 (RCE1); and third, the cysteine is methylated by isoprenylcysteine carboxyl methyltransferase (ICMT). 2. 12. Insulinogenic Effects of Milk- and Other Dietary Proteins, Mechanisms and metabolic implications

    Author : Mikael Nilsson; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Näringslära; Nutrition; Type 2 diabetes; Isolated islets; Incretin hormones; Food proteins; Amino acids; Insulin index; Glycaemic index; Hyperinsulinaemia; Insulin; Blood glucose; Milk; Whey;

    Abstract : The metabolic syndrome (type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, dyslipidaemia, and hyperinsulinaemia), is increasing in prevalence world-wide. The progression of this syndrome proceeds through a step-wise deterioration of metabolic events where deterioration of insulin sensitivity appears to have a key role in a ?vicious circle? of hyperinsulinaemia/hyperglycaemia and insulin resistance. 3. 13. Altered proteins in the aging brain

    Author : Adila Elobeid; Irina Alafuzoff; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Thomas Brännström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cognitively unimpaired subjects; Hyperphosphorylated tau; Beta amyloid; Alpha-synclein; Transactive response DNA binding protein 43; Patologi; Pathology;

    Abstract : The classification of neurodegenerative disorders is based on the major component of the protein aggregates in the brain. The most common altered proteins associated with neurodegeneration are Hyperphosphorylated tau (HPt), beta amyloid (Aβ), alpha-synclein (αS) and transactive response DNA binding protein 43 (TDP43). 4. 14. Chemical Engineering of Small Affinity Proteins

    Author : Joel Lindgren; Amelie Eriksson Karlström; Lars Baltzer; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Affibody molecules; albumin binding domain; ligation; protein synthesis; solid phase peptide synthesis; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Small robust affinity proteins have shown great potential for use in therapy, in vivo diagnostics, and various biotechnological applications. However, the affinity proteins often need to be modified or functionalized to be successful in many of these applications. READ MORE

  5. 15. Engineering strategies for ABD-derived affinity proteins for therapeutic and diagnostic applications

    Author : Mikael Åstrand; Sophia Hober; John Löfblom; Larry Gold; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ABD; ADAPT; Protein G; ERBB2; ERBB3; Directed evolution; phage display; staphylococcal display; bispecific; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Small stable protein domains are attractive scaffolds for engineering affinity proteins due to their high tolerance to mutagenesis without loosing structural integrity. The albuminbinding domain is a 5 kDa three-helix bundle derived from the bacterial receptor Protein G with low-nanomolar affinity to albumin. READ MORE
