  1. 1. Advances in Thermal Insulation Vacuum Insulation Panels and Thermal Efficiency to Reduce Energy Usage in Buildings

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Thomas Thorsell; KTH.; [2012]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vacuum insulation panels; VIP; serpentine edge; thermal bridge; composite film; gas diffusion; defect dominated; holistic approach; building enclosure; integrated testing and modeling; energy equivalent; field performance; air flow; thermal insulation efficiency;

    Abstract : We are coming to realize that there is an urgent need to reduce energy usage in buildings and it has to be done in a sustainable way. This thesis focuses on the performance of the building envelope; more precisely thermal performance of walls and super insulation material in the form of vacuum insulation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fabrication and Characterisation of Carbon Nanotube Array Thermal Interface Materials

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : ANDREAS NYLANDER; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbon nanotubes; reliability test; thermal management; thermal interface material; chemical functionalization;

    Abstract : The performance of electronic devices has long been limited by thermal dissipation which will result in device failure if not handled properly. The next generation of integrated circuit (IC) devices will feature new packaging technologies like heterogeneous integration as well as 3D stacking which entails additional emphasis on the thermal management solutions employed. 3. 3. Climate Related Thermal Actions for Reliable Design of Concrete Structures

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Oskar Larsson; [2012]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal stress; solar radiation; FE-analysis; climate data; box-girder bridge; KstrConcrete; KstrReliability;

    Abstract : When the temperature changes in the environment the temperature will also change in a structure. Complex interactions of climate factors affect the temperature changes. When the temperature is varied in a material it will expand or contract, and movements will be produced. READ MORE

  4. 4. Robust and Durable Vacuum Insulation Technology for Buildings

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Vacuum Insulation panels VIPs ; Million Program; Energy saving; Thermal conductivity; thermal transmittance U-value ; Thermal bridges; Stationary and transient measurements; Dynamic simulations of heat and moisture conditions; Full scale measurement in climatic chamber; LCA; Vakuumisoleringspaneler VIP:ar ; Miljonprogrammet; Energibesparing; Värmeledningsförmåga; värmegenomgångskoefficient U-värdet ; Köldbryggor; Stationära och transienta mätningar; Dynamiska simuleringar av värme och fuktförhållanden; Fullskaleförsök i klimatkammare; LCA; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : Today’s buildings are responsible for 40% of the world’s energy use and also a substantial share of the Global Warming Potential (GWP). In Sweden, about 21% of the energy use can be related to the heat losses through the climatic envelope. READ MORE

  5. 5. Restraint Effects in Concrete Bridges : A Study of Cracking due to Thermal Actions and Shrinkage in Portal Frame Bridges

    University dissertation from Lunds University, Building Construction

    Author : Erik Gottsäter; [2019-10-25]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tvång; Betong; Uppsprickning; Temperaturlast; Plattrambro; FE-analys; Restraint; Concrete; Cracking; Thermal action; Portal frame bridge; FE-analysis;

    Abstract : Thermal actions and shrinkage cause volume changes in concrete structures. In structures which are restrained from movements, the restraint effects can cause cracking. However, when cracking occurs, the structure can deform to some extent, which reduces the restraint stresses and thus also the crack widths. READ MORE
