1. Zero and Multi-Dimensional Modeling of Internal Combustion Engines with respect to Ion Current and Soot Formation
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis can be divided into the three following fields of investigation: First of all the ionization model developed in this thesis is meant to simulate the thermal ionization process or the so-called second peak. Equilibrium assumptions have been adopted for the modeling of the thermal ionization, in which Saha’s equation was derived for singly ionized molecules. READ MORE

2. Theoretical and Experimental Studies of the Formation of Ionized Gases in Spark Ignition Engines
Abstract : The processes that govern the formation, existence and consumption of ions in gases have been studied both experimentally and theoretically. The aim of the work is targeted at increasing the understanding of these phenomena in the working gases inside an engine. READ MORE

3. Ionization of large molecules with short laser pulses
Abstract : The decay dynamics of fullerenes and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) after femtosecond-laser excitation have been studied experimentally by electron momentum mapping and mass spectrometry. The electron spectra of fullerenes and large PAH-molecules were found to be exponentially decreasing with energy without any distinct peaks outside the photon energy. READ MORE

4. Alkali Release and Effects on Biomass Thermal Conversion Processes
Abstract : High alkali content is an important feature of biomass, and it has a series of implications for thermal conversion processes. This thesis focuses on the release of alkali during various biomass thermal conversion processes, including biomass pyrolysis, char gasification, co-conversion of different types of biomass, and thermal conversion of biomass mixed with fresh and used bed materials. 5. Characterization of an Electrical Sensor for Combustion Diagnostics
Abstract : The ionization sensor is an electrical probe for diagnostics in internal combustion engines. The combustion process affects the electrical properties of the gas in the cylinder. Thus the sensor signal contains copious information about the conditions in the combustion chamber. READ MORE
